I'd like to suggest something.
pfsense is a good, free router and VPN server solution, you could then use VNC over the VPN link to remote control your remote servers. Depending on your level of understanding you may be able to setup a free VPN server yourself using pfsense. It offers PPTP VPN server with 128b MPPE (encryption), that means the standard Windows XP VPN client can dial-up you VPN server and then you have secure connection to the servers. Sounds like you need a decent consultant or engineer still!

Not entirely sure of the reasons behind moving away from OpenVPN Gui... Havent been with the company long...

As I understand it, the person who designed the software works for our former sister company?? (who do pretty much the same thing as us)

Again; I don't know the full story so can't really comment...
