@Lias:

michaelmurfy:

I removed your other comment because it is uncalled for and frankly untrue. I just appreciate good service and know the owners personally (they're good guys) who care about their customers.

Networkn questioned why a thread recommending one registrar was being derailed by people recommending Metaname, and my comment was a perfectly valid one. Your response just kind of reinforces that the pro Metaname brigade around here are well.. rabid fanbois..

Personally, my two cents would be you (or one of the other mods who doesn't have a conflict of interest by being friends with the owners) should remove all the pro Metaname posts.

There are no conflict of interest in this case. You know pretty much all moderators in person and should know better than suggest this.

The blog posts about GDPR and other topics is actually what lead me to and got me interested in DomainsDirect

I can know them and like them and still troll them a bit every now and then :-P

Trolling is not acceptable.

I found this thread because I'm looking into shifting domain providers. I've have been using WebDrive since 1999. The founders, Daniel Williams (who also started Domains4Less and has started Domains Direct) and Steve Hogg(?) were always excellent to deal with. Their control panel was simple and extremely functional. The same control panel is still ahead of most other providers in terms of being user-friendly. However, since they sold their company to Umbrellar in 2014, quality of service has declined dramatically. I'm not sure, but I suspect that the front line customer service staff are based offshore. Response times and knowledge of services is extremely poor and they seem to be responding with stock answers rather than replying to the actual content of our tickets. Sometimes the replies are completely unrelated to the question I asked. I have lost clients because WebDrive were unable to resolve issues with domains and email within a reasonable time.

Disclaimer: I run Energise Web and have not been in touch with Daniel or Steve for years. I have no financial interest in Domains Direct and am not (yet) a customer.
