Whilst I agree that it would have been better to get it done locally for all sorts of reasons, the result could have been much worse.

I see these things as legal corruption until proven otherwise.

I wonder who is the person (actual person) that hired and signed the contract with Novopay.

I wonder who is the person tendering Novopay to the govt.

You connect the two persons and find the link.

It will be a "I'll scratch your back you scratch mine" situation.

Or could well be some crazy incompetence on the person choosing the Novopay tender.

That smells very similar. Unfortunately a couple of people have gotten very rich and sunbathing on their private island as we speak.

As above, nope. I work for Intergen and we provide services to the government.

Fair enough. I just feel like every press release you see about some new flash Government platform it contains 'built by Datacom' in it somewhere. Obviously just a perception.

From memory Datacom provided the old system and were approached to tender for the new one but declined.

Still got a way to go before you beat the highest record I know of. Tony Blair (for whom our current PM worked) blew about $30 BILLION equivalent on an IT system for the NHS in the UK ..... that was cancelled before ever actually being used.

Nobody lost their job over that either....

30 Billion!! 😵 Goodness...

Nah, plenty of high-level managers making decisions on things that they know nothing about. I see it everywhere.

Bingo. I've seen a system that was bought without any input from IT. Then, once it was too late, IT took one look at it and, well, let's just say that a system that ran in IE5 compatibility mode in 2015 was not well-received.

Or the analyst that scoped the original project? Or the managers who approved the numerous instances of scope creep?

There's a lot of blame on both sides.

Given the long history of Govt overspending on IT systems that didnt work, why would anyone really think they would have gotten this right ?
