Yep that was addressed very quickly by both Zoom and Apple. We alerted our customers straight away and the NZ Police sent a bulletin to all governemnt departments.

It was also based on the 'hacker' being able to get into your network in the first place

With iOS at least, you're basically going to need an app installed for all of these services, unless you use FaceTime.

With Teams at least it's pretty easy. Install the app and then tap the link for the meeting in the email invite and it opens in the app and connects to the call.

Yes, but I needed something for 1 off video calls .

The person at the other end of the call: isnt part of the company, isnt part of the companies teams , and wont have teams installed
The person at the other end will quite often not be tech savvy and could get stuck when forced to install an app then remove it afterwards .

I also dont want a Android app that wants to rummage through the persons contacts and folders , for the sake of a one off vid call.

YOu dont need to have Zoom to Join a Zoom call, that's why it has been adopted by so many large/government organizations, its open to much more flexibility. You can join using the Zoom app if you like (the preferred and most feature rich experience) however you can dial in, join from Skype, a browser or any SIP/.323 device.

If you are an Office 365 customer use teams. It just works, integrates well with outlook for booking meetings. You can invite external parties, record the videos and get automated transcripts with Microsoft stream in Office 365 as well. Surprisingly useful if calls are used for decision making as the transcripts are searchable.

If not Office 365 I have used zoom and it's good. You can also use Skype, it's surprisingly flexible and powerful for free.

Laptop webcams will work, but for higher quality look at the Logitech 920 or 922 for single user, or 930 for small meeting room. If you want 4k the brio exists, but I've never used it.

I highly recommend headsets. we supply all of our guys either plantronics focus UC (headphones with noise cancelling) or 5200 uc (portable bluetooth like headset). Audio quality is much much higher than with laptop microphones, and eliminates most background noise. This is more important that webcams in my opinion.
