nzkc: ....Couple of weeks ago started a role where I now work remotely (from home full time). I shall not miss the lost couple of hours in Auckland's traffic system each day. I count myself very lucky for many other reasons too.

Might be looking into this myself in the coming weeks. We shall see where things go. Retirement is pretty cruisy, though the pay is only $0.

We've been told that nothing changes...we work from home until we are told we can re-enter the building under strict conditions and we'll find out how that all works soon(ish).

I'm in no hurry to go back full time, but will want to do a couple of days a week, both for my own sanity and to support my staff (one of whom has not coped well with working from home).

Not initially, but being a public transport user it means a much lower availability of seats

Same for me, when i moved i also switched to using public transport.

i was actually kinda keen to be back in and working with my team in person, reducing the number of required calls..

but when i considered both public transport and social distancing and contact tracing rules, It just makes more sense to stay home.

Going back in on Monday. Don't have to but a few of the team are going in. I miss the general office banter and just being around people. I also find that I don't like full time working from home as the line between work and pleasure time gets a bit blurred - towards the pleasure side in my case.

I'm in the office this morning, but I've been here every Thursday since 25-March. As a member of the senior lead team we've had a roster in place to make sure one of us is on site each day through lock down to check in on our front line teams who can't WFH.

We've told our staff that are WFH not to come in until advised, possibly early next week. We need the time to get the office ready, marking meeting rooms for maximum occupancy, arranging tables in lunch rooms and rearranging desks in open office to meet the distancing requirements. We do want our staff to return as soon as safe, but not before we know we have everything in order.

I will let you know how it goes for me (Kapiti Line)

@freitasm very happy with Metlink and social distancing

Looks good... Not sure how buses will cope yet though - mainly in those routes where buses are 20 minutes apart in the morning and evening... Lots of people waiting to board so it would need a massive increase in buses to service everyone.

My son tells me when his office finally reopens he will be running from his home in Khandallah to work and back. He tells there is no way on earth is he getting into one of those yellow/green petri dishes.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Going to be interesting on the Wairarapa Line especially on the way home from the city. I live in Masterton so guaranteed a seat in the morning but it could be a different case getting home. The seats taken by Upper Hutt commuters were bad enough in normal times in limiting options for us travelling through the tunnel; if they continue to use the Wairarapa trains with limited seating there could be bloodshed at some point.

Did they put the same signs on the Wairapa trains?

I would think the simple answer would be to make the Wairarapa evening trains non-stop until Featherston

I'm at work today. There are six people in our office (normally about 30).

I had to use public transport (Ferry and Bus), and both were fine. The ferry had signs on seats you couldn't sit on, and the bus was well signed where you could and couldn't sit. There were only about 10 people on the bus, with a reduced capacity of 36 (Double Decker).

I'll probably alternate home/office for the rest of Level 2. I can do most of my work from home, just the physical sending of items I can't do from home (IT Support to a store network).

There are a significant number of people who get on at Upper Hutt to make the trip home each evening, that would basically prevent them from using the trains.

I am going into the office briefly today for the first time in nearly 8 weeks, but only to collect some personal items and paperwork. Our management have asked people to continue to work from home where possible, and I'm happy to do so if it helps to lessen the risk.

Our offices will be operating at 40% capacity, but it's good that some space will be available to those who really need it. A lot of people live in housing situations that are not well suited to working from home, so I'm sure there will be a few people who will be keen to get back into the office.
