Still not found the right box. Looking at some Core i5/i7 boards at the moment that might do the trick as along as I get a flexible chassis.

Afraid this will have to be an Intel/AMD solution. Most of the virtualisation will be KVM based with Linux Guests. There might be a bit of Windows, but mostly Linux.

kiwiscot: Hi Open Media, not sure if you've found a server solution for your virtualisation project yet, however, IBM have some new announcements in their server range next month that you should consider.

The Power7 launch is next week (register at the link below).  If that box isn't right for you, you'll find the right guys from IBM and their business partners available to have a chat.

If the price points of the Power7 systems are similar to the Power6 systems then i dont think they're the right product for the task.  openmedia is most likely trying to keep costs below a couple of $thousand whereas I think the base Power6 systems were priced somewhere north of the US$50,000 mark.

Hi OpenMedia, have a look at either:

1. Tower : http://www-07.ibm.com/systems/nz/x/hardware/tower/x3500m2/index.html
2. Rack : http://www-07.ibm.com/systems/nz/x/hardware/rack/x3550m2/index.html

Both of these would do the job easily.

The support for VMware ESXi embedded hypervisor makes deployment dead easy too.

Cheers
