MacGraphics: xpd, can you tell me some of the sites you've seen running wordpress that look good?

I believe they only do weekly backups, and they have exclusions in their t&cs on the number of inodes. This becomes a problem if you get hacked and need to get the host to restore to an earlier version, which is not uncommon for people who are running older versions of unpatched wordpress, due to security holes. I think they also charge for restoring from backups. Sure people should also do their own backups to, but it is an additional cost in time.

I believe you shouldn't rely on your hosting partner to perform backups. If you are tasked with maintaining a website then the responsibility should be yours. If you are using WordPress then paying for the Backup Buddy plugin is worth it's weight in gold as you can schedule database-only and full backups (database and all files): http://pluginbuddy.com/purchase/backupbuddy/

Also these scheduled backups can be sent to the likes of Amazon S3, Dropbox, RackSpace, etc storage services. It's also got a great feature for restoring a WordPress site from scratch.
