Hmm, I was under the impression I could pass through the whole PCI bus? (DirectIO), that way the card would be passed through as well?

That is partly true, at the moment it is experimental support only - not supported.
It might work, it might not, it's still a phase one release. Technically, the tested cards are a set of network cards. Anything outside of that is "good luck!" only, and may have some very... "interesting"... results after being used for a bit.

I've seen some very, very funny happenings.

ah thank you for that. I've seen people use it with tv tuner cards, sound cards and all sorts of things. Hopefully I'll get lucky and it will work for me!

haha well hopefully it works for you!

Personally if it was my own computer that I was playing around with then i would give it a go, but if it was a client's PC I wouldn't run the risk.

The other downside of passthrough (more of an issue with multiple VM's on a single host) is that in order to fix most of the issues with the passthrough requires a restart of the host, which simply isn't do-able in enterprise level computing.

Let us know how you get on anyway!

Ah thank you for all your help

The project is a work thing, so not so much a problem of having a client. It looks like it's been put on hold for a while as more pressing matters have come up. I will post back when it gets done

thanks again!
