+1, personally i think its a waste of time, everyone wants .co.nz, its the name we all know. nobody wants a .net.nz (therock.net.nz is the only domain i know who uses this). .kiwi maybe, but .kiwi.nz wont really take off all that well (people want shorter domains not longer ones)

Which one do you remember

steve@email.kiwi.nz

or steve@email.net.nz

I think it has a lot of pulling power when compared to a lot of current nz 2ld's. I also agree with an above poster who wants the matching .kiwi - together will be awesome!

I got up at 7am to register steve.kiwi.nz but the registration wasn't available. At 9am it kept crashing, and by 10am the domain was gone. Bleh.

Registrations didn't start until just after 10am with the SRS, but yes... by 2 minutes and 39 seconds after 10 you were just to late.

...actually, I was just looking at a few whois records and it looks like there was a bulk update at 10:02:39, so you may have had even less time than that.

lol.... ya I was on the phone with them at the time :) They had to do a quick server restart just on 10am.

I had a chat with them yesterday about getting things ready for .kiwi.nz. You wouldn't believe the amount of work they had to do to stuff to make it happen.

The 'provisional' stuff meant a lot of work from what I gather. But it seems a bit silly because all that work for just 15 minutes... they passed 1000 in under 15 minutes.

Domain Registrations only opened at 10:00:02 and at 12:00 there where 3000+ .kiwi.nz domains names in the DNS

Some people must have had them programed in to automatically register just after 10am, based on some of the timings shown in the NZ whois lookup

Adding more TLD's and 2nd level options is just a shameless money grab by the registrarr's that forces major brand to buy their name for brand protection.

google.kiwi.nz, coke.kiwi.nz etc, telecom.kiwi.nz etc etc

It's dumb, I refuse to support .kiwi or kiwi.nz... it's nonsense.

I disagree:

There are many TLD's and 2nd level suffixes already.

Domain traders suck up all the valuable names immediately with automated systems.

Who would actually want a .kiwi.nz as the primary domain name for their business? Most want .co.nz OR .com and are willing to use hypens or add a suffix or prefix to their company name.

If two different serious people/entities register somecompany.co.nz and somecompany.kiwi.nz they will likely end up in dispute at the DNC with whoever has trademarks etc winning and getting use of both.

I've been getting calls from customers asking me what I think about registering their .kiwi.nz name.

In some cases we might and in others we won't.

But what this does do is give us another reason to be talking to customers, it's something new.

In any sales role things go dull. You call the customer up to confirm your call cycle appointment and they don't want to know you, even when you're offering a wet lunch.

.kiwi.nz is about driving the digital economy.

$3 a month. Yes, DNC are just laughing their heads off at my customers.

My customers are laughing too. We've had a catch up on what they're doing in the internet space and a bit of a general chat about marketing.

The ones I laugh at are the domain squatters who in many cases have something of no value which they can't use and smart people aren't going to buy off them.

People may also buy them as they beleive with may help with SEO. Soif they don't have the .co.nz, they maybe able to get the .kiwi.nz.
