Behodar: "We" as in myself + the coworker that noticed, and the other coworker that also seemed surprised :)

Well, I just dug out last year's email; it was open until 3 pm last year so wasn't the same.

FishOfPrey: Any word on who the band will be after the keynote?

Was there a band last year? I don't remember one playing, and I don't see any reference in last year's emails.

I didn't attend Tech Ed NZ last year, which was the same year they transitioned to Vector Arena. Certainly in years before that the band that played the party was usually notable. E.g. Fat Freddy's Drop, The Adults, and The Feelers.

To be honest, the party/band was never the reason I went to TechEd. Maybe having a headliner act at the party is a thing of the past now.

Behodar: One of my coworkers noticed in the smallprint that registration closes at midday on Tuesday. After that you need to check in at Vector but can't get the bag until the next morning. It looks like Wednesday morning will be a rush...

Meanwhile, I just tried the Ignite iOS app and had no luck whatsoever. It asks for a Microsoft account (using the Ignite account doesn't work) and then complains that there is no Ignite ticket associated with that account (which makes sense because the Ignite registration process doesn't ask for a Microsoft account). It looks like the app is only for Ignite US, but the description doesn't bother to mention whether that's actually the case or not.

We close the registration at SKYCITY as the registration desk moves to Vector for the afternoon.  Its open all Monday as well, 8.00-6.00pm.  The website is being updated shortly with the opening/closing hours for the registration desk here: https://msignite.nz/whats-on

We don't have a native downloadable app for Ignite NZ - the one(s) you see are for the Chicago US event only.  Our website has been built to target mobile devices as well as desktop/tablet (responsive) so you should bookmark that instead. We'll also have a downloadable version of the Mini guide (and a printed one), and anything you add to your schedule on the Ignite website should sync to your internet calendar feed if you're using that option.

The band from last year was The Black Seeds.  I'm not in the loop with what the theme or band at kickoff is this year, so can't help you there.

OK, thanks. So some band will probably be playing the keynote party.

Personally, I find it a bit odd to maintain so much secrecy around a part of the conference. I sold my brother on flying to Auckland to attend based on the keynote speakers alone. It might have been easier if I knew who was playing the party.

It's never necessary to assume secrecy for what can be accounted for by "I thought you were booking the band?" cool

Hmmm, any way of downloading my session calendar to my phone? WP8.1 I can get the info into Outlook, but it is a separate calendar from my Exchange one, so doesn't come though to my phone

Can you import the session calendar to your outlook.com calendar for your phone's Windows Live ID?

Yup, had to copy the link to my calendar, go to outlook.com and subscribe using the pasted link. From here it was able to be selected on my phone. Thanks

I wish more companies would do this.  I think this is the smarter way and doesn't alienate anyone.  All OS's are covered.  Full marks from me, well done Microsoft New Zealand.

I would have thought the smart way would be MS showing how easy it is to make universal apps that can easily be published to Android/iOS. This way you get the tight integration with the device, and have access to location/gps/mapping, push notification, social media etc.

The only people usually at risk of alienation when it comes to apps are WP users

We would have liked to have done the universal app too, however we had a whole new front-end and back-end built for the conference and the tight deadlines meant that we had to sacrifice some features. Proud to say that we're using two local IT companies to build this out: digital design agency http://www.nvinteractive.co.nz/ and training & event management SaaS ISV https://www.arlo.co/

Well folks - it's next week. As mentioned I will be at Microsoft Ignite and the annual Geekzone dinner is on Wednesday this time. If you want to join us send me a PM so I can book appropriately.

We meet every year at the Turkish cafe around the corner on Victoria St, dinner from 6pm. - you pay your own way as this is not sponsored.

More issues with the calendar.  After subscribing last night (following the same steps as Regan's how-to - https://twitter.com/nzregs/status/636674343859154944 ) I made some changes to my schedule this morning.  There doesn't seem to be any way to force Outlook.com to refresh the subscription (and the internet is awash with plenty of reports of this).  No worries, I'll just delete the subscription, and re-add it to get the latest info into Outlook.com, and then onto my phone.  Even after deleting and re-subscribing, the original (outdated) calendar remains, and it still shows the last refresh time to be last night, even though I have only just added it.

No luck with the calendar on my iPhone either; I click the download button and get a message saying that the address is invalid.
