gehenna: I was hoping for some more server 2016 sessions. The company direction is clear.

Yeah pretty disappointing lack of on prem stuff, especially System Centre.  I think there was 1 SCCM session and nothing on OpsMgr/DPM/VMM/Orchestrator from memory.  We get it Microsoft, you like your new cloud toy, and Azure has some nice shiny stuff, but the enterprise is still going to have on prem servers for decades to come, give us some loving FFS.

I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

We have loads of customers committed to on-premise, it's extremely annoying having MS think they know better than everyone.

It almost feels as if they didn't release the session list until after tickets were well and truly sold. I'm concerned that much of this year is going to be yet another big marketing spiel rather than the technology focused goodness that people are looking for.

There is always a certain amount of marketing fluff at Ignite, but usually there are good technical sessions as well. I've found stuff to fill most of my schedule (and the usual 2 good sounding sessions at the same time!), I just wish their wasn't quite so much focus on Azure.. As I said above yes it's nice and shiny but I'd still like to see on-prem given some loving.

Don't get me wrong, I've found plenty of sessions I'm going to attend, there are actually a couple of slots where there are 3 or 4 sessions on at the same time, so I really hope they record them all. The Azure sessions thankfully don't worry me as I get to spend a bit of time there.

Edit: spelling

I've managed to take a hammer to the boss's piggy bank, so I'll be igniting next week.

Will probably have a work thing on Tuesday night, so I'll just watch for y'all on here & Twitter.

I see Slipknot are playing Vector on Wednesday. That'll make for an interesting night in town. Wonder how much overlap there is in the Ignite/maggot crowds?

Apparently this is why accommodation in downtown Aucks is pretty much all booked out, which could mean I'll be joining the popular Auckland pastime of sleeping in a car.

I wouldn't want to see you sleeping in a car. If you need a place to stay for a night, I am sure we could accommodate you :)

I must say I am considering going to Slipknot, but more for Lamb of God than them :-)

It probably won't come to that, more likely we'll end up staying somewhere out of the city centre and driving/taxiing in. Which would be irritating, but not as bad as commuting from Hamtown.

Hope the GZ dinner was good! I got a bit carried away drinking and chatting and totally lost track of time.

Last day of Ignite 2016. The keynote this year was a lot better than last year's. Things were more consistent and the quick fire demos were good.

Attended a few sessions and had a chance to chat with Donna Sarkar, Donovan Brown and others.

Our dinner on Tuesday was good, with 15 people attending and a few missing. We all walked to Giapo afterwards for an ice cream.

I didn't go to the party, instead myself and @Redjungle had some Argentinian parrilla (BBQ) and desert afterwads. It was a good choice because Wednesday eve I had dinner with Microsoft and other media, getting back at my apartment Thursday around 3:30am.
