Is anyone else experiencing poor performance on Snap? Especially at this time of the night? 8:30pm-11:00pm.

My latency keeps shooting through the roof as such.

On the surface it appears to seem like exchange congestion because yeah it's busy time of the night, but what makes me doubt this is that for the last 3 months it's been perfectly fine absolutely no congestion regardless of the time of the day. It's not until now that this issue has arisen, This makes me doubt exchange congestion as I do not feel this degredation would set in as rapidly as overnight.

At the moment Snap helpdesk are passing it off as both exchange congestion and/or my hardware. I've checked my own hardware and I do not believe it is at fault as I don't think it would fault like this within a constant time frame and then be absolutely fine at all other times.

Any help if anyone has any ideas would be appreciated.

I'd say mine is dynamic. I havent checked my own IP for a while though.

I'd consider this true if it wasn't fine up until 2 nights ago, it's been perfectly fine every night, every weekend and every holiday period up until 2 nights ago.

Snap haven't always been my provider and I've had absolutely no speed/latency issues with any other provider up until now, the only reason I switched to Snap was they had a good usage plan that met my needs and didn't charge for over-use, If it was exchange congestion this problem would have been present on other ISPs as well but it isn't.

Well it's clearly peak time congestion but whether it's in the backhaul transit from the exchange / cabinet, at the ISP hand over links or inside Snap's network it's hard to tell really.

What exchange/cabinet are you on?

This is what I thought at the beginning but I have been told by their tech team that the bandwidth for residential customers is managed separately from the bandwidth for universities/polytech customers...

Managed differently? Yes, though this has very little to do with how we manage our network. We also serve a vast amount of students, so when they aren't at school/uni they are still in their place of residence for the most part and we see very little change in the performance of our network. The ADSL backhauls, as mentioned above, are a different story.

It's happening again tonight, I'll let you know what time the problem appears to stop in case that helps.

I seem to still be able to pull in 400KB - 800KB/s during this time but the latency is shot, I'd have thought I'd still be able to get reaosnable latency even if my connection was congested and only pulling 4meg instead of 8?

This happens to us quite a bit too, rates are always alot lower than what is quoted by Snap :)

DoubleDotMedia, I'm not sure any issue you may be experiencing is related to exchange congestion in the evening. If you are having an issue with your Snap broadband service then please log this as a job with our helpdesk, via myself and forums etc shouldn't be the first place we hear of an issue.
