According to the logs in my Fritzbox my IP changes daily at around 3am. In the log I get the message. I don't seem to be getting the same IP each day, it changes at random. It's not a problem, since I'm not hosting a server I don't care what my IP is.

Clearing Internet connection briefly to prevent the Internet service provider from disconnecting you in the immediate future.
Explanation is
This is an event message from the "Internet Connection" area.
This status message informs you that the Internet connection has to be interrupted briefly. After a brief interval the Internet connection will be reestablished automatically

@Timmmay: Under Internet -> Account Information -> Connection Settings I think you can untick "Delay disconnection by provider to the period between" to prevent it disconnecting daily, which I believe isn't needed for snap and is intended for some ISPs in other countries (And may actually be bad for VDSL)

EDIT: Oops cross posted with Ralph ;-)

PS: Mine never changes unless I reboot the modem, which is very infrequent.

Thanks Ralph. It works fine but might as well fix that up.

Nothing there in my settings, I'll talk to whoever calls from Snap later.

I quite like how un-sticky Snap! IP's are. Every so often I get my IP blocked by one of my servers (over zealous mod_security rules normally) and rather than using a cellular connection or KVM a quick restart of the modem issues a fresh IP and I can go back to life. Lazy but it works.

On the topic of IP's but still OT... Has Snap! stopped issuing IPv6 addresses at present? We haven't had once since last month and I'm missing it for a few things (restarts do not issue one and it's not disabled).

We use Snap along with Unotelly, so every time the IP address changes we notice it because our US streaming services stop working and we have to update the IP. Happy to say I only ever notice the IP address change when we unplug/disconnect the router, otherwise its stable and we don't have to worry about it.

In case its useful for others...

I use HE.net free dynamic DNS which allows me to use a custom domain name. I only use this for accessing the VPN server on the fritz box and anything else at home, so it works perfect without the need for buying a proper static IP.

Its a littler quirky to set up but basically:
1. sign up at dns.he.net
2. add your domain
3. add a new "A" record, check the box for "dynamic DNS"
4. in the record list click the button to generate a DDNS key

Then log in to your fritz box, go to Internet -> Dynamic DNS
1. select "user defined"
2. set your update URL to: http://dyn.dns.he.net/nic/update?hostname=<domain>
3. set your domain name to: your.fulldomain.com
4. set your user name to: your.fulldomain.com
5. set your password to: the generated DDNS key

Done :)

What do you use it for unsignedint? Just a VPN back to your computer if you need something from home?

as said before its $5 a month for static IP people, that's only $60 a year and you never have to worry about your address changing again.

The original problem has been resolved, I think. People are now just discussing random things that have come up.

Yeah pretty much.

I think one of the most useful features of the fritzbox (for me) is the built-in VPN server. It works *perfectly* with OS X and iOS. When I am not at home I do all my Internet via the encrypted VPN since I trust my home connection. Secondly, we have a Synology NAS with all our files on it that I can access, without having to worry about leaving it exposed to 'net.

While $60 may not seem like much, I can spend it on coffees or something useful (don't want to waste IPv4 now do we?! ;-)
