As Snap doesn't maintain a list of unmetered sites in their FAQ or on their site I thought I'd make a list here of known unmetered sites

iSky (www.isky.co.nz)
Steam (when using Snap's Steam servers)
tvnzondemand (www.tvnzondemand.co.nz)
Quickflix (www.quickflix.co.nz - coming soon)

Using the Youtube/Google All you can eat bundle:

Youtube.com
Google.com
music.google.com
docs.google.com
reader.google.com

Please list any other sites and I'll update the list.

They also zero-rate university content for the prepay users I believe.

Ie canterbury halls students get free access to UC content.

Was iTunes also zero-rated? or did I just imagine that?

I think there might be others?  For example I've had to download BF3 from EA Origin a number of times recently and the game is 15GB.  Everytime so far I've downloaded it, it has not used my data... Same as windows updates!

That would be because it is content served by Akamai and there is a cache for that too!

All the caches! ;D

TVNZ website says it currently has no unmetered partners.

I hope Ralph can clarify.

An ISP can choose what they want to zero-rate, they don't have to be a partner to do so unless the content provider doesn't peer openly with the open internet. It's purely a netflow/billing thing.

I believe TVNZ moved to Akamai for their hosting of the shows which I'm sure as many can understand this makes things incredibly difficult to isolate purely TVNZ traffic off such a large CDN.

Hi Guys,

The following is unmetered on Snap,

iSky - www.isky.co.nz,
Steam - when using Snap's Steam content server (Please note, this is controlled by steam and it chooses which content server to download from)
Quickflix - www.quickflix.co.nz (coming soon)
Google - (with our "All you can eat add-on")
Youtube - (with our "All you can eat add-on")

Unfortunately we no longer unmeter TVNZ on demand as they have moved to another content host which makes it very difficult to unmeter TVNZ on demand traffic.

Thanks,

Snap

I'm sorry Ralph, I must have misheard misread you. Did you say that New Zealand's first proper video & TV streaming service will be available on an UNMETERED basis for Snap customers??!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

Looks like I fail at Geekzone, I can't see a way of editing the first post (probably an edit time limit).

Hey Guys,

Yes that is correct, we will be unmetering all bandwidth used on Quickflix - www.quickflix.co.nz. We do not have a date when this will be effective from yet, but keep an eye out.

Thanks,
