Heya,

We've signed up for snap UFB but will be using our own router (linksys E3000 w/ tomatousb). Ideally we'd still like to use the provided snap voip line, but with our own voip hardware/software. Does anyone have the setup instructions with the server settings etc.?

Cheers

Ring Snap ,

Whilst they don't support other hardware they will happily provide the settings you need,
I was stressed about this , with regard to configuring a Cisco spa 112 ata,
In reality it took less than 5mins to setup. with there provided settings

Cheers

Jeremy

Can I also put a request out there for the VOIP server settings?

I tried asking Snap for the them but they point blank refused to give them to me, and said that anything other that the Fritzbox was unsupported.

I can understand them not wanting to support other devices but refusing to give out the server IP and what credentials to use for authentication is just ridiculous..

Can anyone on here help?  I found these details in a Google cache of the Snap website:

General Settings:
Server IP: 123.255.8.255
Port (If requested by device): 5060
Username: Phone number without the leading 0. E.G. 03 123 4567 would be 31234567
Password: Supplied at signup
DTMF: In-Band
All other settings remain as defaults

But I just get an authentication failure when I try connecting with a SIP client.  It's really annoying as I have Snap VOIP with my UFB connection but since I don't have a FritzBox I'm totally unable to use it!

try connect1.plus.snap.net.nz as the sip server. I assume the port is 5060

No luck with that.  I'm assuming I should be using the same password as I use for the PPPoE internet connection and the snap website, and my username should be my phone number?

So to recap I'm connecting to:

Host: connect1.plus.snap.net.nz:5060
Username: 9600***2
Password: <my snap password>

The error I get in my client is: Registration failed (From: URI not recognised (403))

Not sure if that is helpful - isn't a SIP From: URI just number@somewhere.com? I've not set that in the settings in my client (the android app Zoiper was just the one I happened to try with), and I'm not sure what I should set it to if I did have to set it either.

I also tried an arbitrary SIP client on my laptop (SFLphone) but got a similar authentication failure.

Help!

Yeah the settings are missing from their website. Those cached ones are the old settings.

Don't drop the leading zero. Username is the phone number.

Still getting a 403 even with the leading zero :(

Tried another softphone client on my laptop (linphone) but no luck there either.

Thanks for your help.. any other suggestions?  Do I need to set the user-agent or something - have they locked it down so you can only connect with a Fritz Box?  Is anyone else out there using Snap Plus without a Fritz Box?

Heres the settings from my fritzbox, as far as i know you have them correct:

Give snap support a ring, and say you understand only the fritz is officially supported, but can you please confirm the settings?

Not sure what hardware you are using, but just to be sure, can you advise if you have connect1.plus.snap.net.nz and port 5060 in a separate entry, or, are you trying to enter connect1.plus.snap.net.nz:5060?

Thanks for your help guys! Unfortunately I'm still no closer to connecting.

dolsen: Checked regarding the port and it doesn't make any difference if I put it on the end of the server URL or just leave it off - my client must default to 5060 anyway. If I put a random incorrect port on the end it times out when trying to connect, so that implies that I've got the port right.

Get a similar timeout if I put a typo in the URL, so I'm obviously connecting to the right server - it just won't let me in. Did a bit more research and the 'From: URI not recognised (403)' is a known SIP error message - I can only think that I need to specify the From: URI which I'm guessing is the same as Caller ID - tried just my phone number buy maybe I need an @snap.net.nz or similar on the end?

Will try giving Snap a call tomorrow but I'm not hopeful - this is what happened when I asked previously via email and it sounds pretty firm - as does the information in the link they sent:

--------------------------------------------------
Hi there Sam, thanks for your email.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide you with the SIP server settings required to use this service on your android device.
For a little more explanation, please see the link below.

Does anyone with a fritzbox care to PM me a dump of their config or similar so I can go over it looking for some further SIP settings such as a From: URI or similar? A post I found on the net suggests that typing

# nvi /var/flash/voip.cfg

in a telnet session with your frizbox should output the VOIP configuration, but as I don't have a FritzBox I can't verify it.

Also - someone else out there must surely have done this already - I know there are plenty of folks out there using Snap without a FritzBox - how are you all using Snap Plus??!

They are probably locking down registrations to MAC addresses so you can hack configs as much as you like but it probably still won't let you register.

I am using the connect1.plus.snap.net to serve 1 of my voip numbers to a ciso 112 ata.
It along with the password was all I needed, and it dual rings with the cellphone with fritz app on it.

My Cisco ata is receiving its network settings from the fritz dhcp

I did not have the sip option box checked, not sure if that changes anything.
Maybe the software phone you are trying to configure is not compatible with the snap plus setup.

chevrolux: yeah, guess they could be. But when I signed up for Snap UFB there was an option for 'bring your own FritzBox' which I chose - it never asked me for the MAC address or any other unique identifier of the hardware at my end. In fact, before I signed up I called to check I could use my own router and they said it was fine - but I guess that was for the broadband not the Snap Plus VOIP :(

jeremynzl: To be honest I'm pretty new to SIP stuff - am just learning. I don't have an ATA or any phone hardware at all, and my router doesn't have any SIP support that I'm aware of. But my understanding was that I should just be able to enter the Snap SIP server and credentials into a soft SIP client of some description and I could make a call - I don't need an asterisk or any other PBX. Have tried 4 different clients so far on android and ubuntu and I just get 403 forbidden on all of them! The last one was CSipSimple on my android as recommended on another thread on this site for connecting to 2Talk. The fact that I'm getting the same '403 From: URI not recognized' on all of them implies that whatever I'm doing wrong, I'm doing wrong consistently ;) Had a look at the Fritz android app but that needs to connect to a FritzBox.

Packet capture from a SIP client on my laptop trying to register follows:

Again, if anyone fancies posting their FritzBox VOIP config from a telnet session that might be handy - there's got to be some bit of config in there that I'm missing. Judging by the error message there's something up with the From URI but I don't know what! Any help very much appreciated :)

Right, so I called Snap and had no problem telling me that the server is connect1.plus.snap.net.nz and the username is my phone number and password my normal password. They also reminded me that they only support the FritzBox so I didn't ask anything about my connection problems.

Can anyone out there confirm whether they can get their credentials working on a simple android SIP client, eg CSipSimple?

Starting to think it must just be me doing something wrong...
