Which ISPs aren't going to use the filter? By now it seems that all of them will

Seriously? Where did you see that everyone ISP's going to be on board?

It was a bit of an exaggeration lol

But with Telecom and Telstra being the biggest ISPs (I think they are anyways) and both of them implementing this 'filter', you might as well have everyone on it

You'd think Telecom would know that no one really wants the filter

That's what I foresee also. They'll block torrent sites and blame it on the filter.

That is Hayley Williams, the seriously cool "rock chick" lead singer of Paramore. She may be small but she's so feisty that she needs protection from no-one, let alone intrusive government legislation. Got some live footage of her in action here, from their recent Auckland concert. I was meant to be the "old fart" chaperone to my daughters first gig, but I came away hoarse. Make of that what you will :-D

Ok everyone lets give our opinion to Telecom Retail CEO Alan Gourdie and tell him we are ready to close our telecom accounts and switch to another phone company if Telecom implements the DIA internet filter. We should tell him that the DIA should be developing their own internet filtering system that each individual parent can optionally download if he/she wants and install it on his/her own computer and that filtering should not be done by the isp. Was a pretty reasonably priced concert actually, with tickets at about $80. Contrast that to the Metallica one the following week where I had to pony up over $150 (and we were closer to the action at Paramore too :-)). Granted, the Metallica one was definitely more epic (esp. in terms of stage show), and they did play for about 30 minutes longer. But Paramore held their own, largely due to Hayley's excellent stage presence and limitless energy.

It was also very refreshing attending a concert where the lead singer didn't need to swear to get her energy and passion across to the crowd. I'm by no means a prude, but it was particularly welcome with a 12 y/o in tow. In fact the whole vibe of that concert was a lot more laid back than the testosterone filled Metallica one (where people were swearing at the folks in the merch and toilet queues because they wasn't moving as fast as they wanted them to).

Just as when Telecom first introduced 10GB traffic limit whoever spoke against it is a "net vampire".

Thats the way people that want to control you/what you say will say.
And no politicians will speak up against it, because their opponents will label them as pedo lovers and they'lll lose, etc.

Turkey has a similar law and they used it to block You Tube because they didn't like one video on it

What I am very concerned about is that once most of the ISP's have implemented it the govt will make it compulsory.

Once most ISPs have implemented it, then it doesn't matter whether or not it's compulsory. In fact, the "beauty" of making it "voluntary" in the first place is that it makes it look like the Government isn't censoring anything - they're just giving ISPs the opportunity too if they want to. Don't like it? Use a different ISP! Oh, whoops, looks like most of the big ISPs are already committed to it, lest they be accused of supporting child porn. How convenient!
