and it looks like the influx of NZHerald viewers has just used up the Google Drive quota of the account that was hosting the warning sound.

PaulBags: Here's two: phone's being used for other purposes (e.g my kitchen clock), and avoiding scheduled tests.

Also, the alerts' format is terrible. It's not a reason to disable, but would like to see it addressed.

I can't see why there would ever be a need for scheduled tests.

people compliant  there was no proper alert system in the country after Kaikorua and now people want opt out..

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Ignore all the places regurgitating that option. The presidential status being used over-rides it regardless what it's set to.

I have an iphone 7 purchased through apple.co.nz and apparently this method of purchase excludes you from receiving the broadcasts.

8 of us at a cafe the other day and only one person received the message. Everyone else had mobiles that were less than 3 years old. All our phones were on the included list of cellphones.

Govt owns the radio frequencies.  Therefore, it gets to do what it wants with the radio frequencies to implement alert systems.

Great system and the recent test message was very clear and unambiguous.
