oxnsox:

....(edit)....
“For some 800,000 Kiwis in ‘rural’ New Zealand, Federated Farmers wants monthly wholesale prices of around $35 and retail at around $60 for speeds of at least 10 megabits per second (Mbps).

OK but how much data do they really want???

I would assume thats without data, if they want data included in that, they're kidding themselves!

I don't see why 10mbit/20gigbyte/$60 would seem unreasonable. That's what I get in the city without a $300m govt top up.

Yes. And with a $300m top up I really don't understand why it shouldn't also be quite possible in a great deal of the rural area.

If you don't agree, can you explain why it shouldn't be possible to get that pricing in the rural area after the govt has thrown $300m at it?

Assuming the RBI works the same way the UFB works, it's a loan. :)

The problem with rural it's more spread out and costs more to get to, etc.
I guess the thing that will have to be addressed is the price. If it's too expensive, no one will buy it. (And they'll bitch)

Good on ya... more power to the copper connection
And on your 'rural' estate where you're not getting a 2degrees signal.... How much would you be paying for a broadband solution delivered from a cell-tower??????

If you're going to compare, at least compare an urban 3G Broadband plan and price to a projected a rural one........

na.  Not comparing layer 1 medium just because the prices in the city are different.

The city has very different cost considerations.

Copper already exists which is very usable on 300m lengths.

The city isn't getting a $300m govt hand out to push 10mbits to the users.

Choose your layer 1 vehicle and push 10mbits to the customer for the price I've shown.

$300m I expect the winning bidder to be able to do that.  If not I'd like to see the costings.  $300m is a truckload of money that was intended to deliver bb not mobile.

Thanks

Actually I thought it was a partnership investment not a loan.  Am I wrong?

Watching the NZNog preso last week, I thought they put money in on both sides...

Did I get it wrong?  Is the money only being lent in to the holding co (LFC) as a loan that has to be repaid and debt that has to be serviced?
