Sorry i don't know the exact phone model but as much as I can gather from dad in law ...

He says he gets no XT reception rurally. He swaps the sim into an el cheapo XT branded wildfire S and gets perfect signal. Sounds strange ...

He puts in VF sim rurally and gets perfect signal ... just not XT

That's what he says ... any ideas?

(phone is bought in singapore and has had OTA ICS update)

The handset must not support 3G on 850Mhz, There must be 50+ threads on this same subject on GZ

that's my guess, but i'm confused with the phone model as what i have in my head is samsung galaxy nexus but this is not that one, it's an old nexus and google did not help me with which bands it supports but i would guess whatever beast it is it's missing 850Mhz WCDMA

It's a variant Nexus S, which doesn't support 850Mhz 3G. http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_google_nexus_s_i9023-3910.php
