My daughter has bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab, great size or travel.
She is going to the US first, then finances depending, Europe.
Are there any apps etc. that you think she would find useful on this adventure?
Keep it simple as we are both Android newbs and are struggling with some stuff on there!

I might have considered a  4" -ish, good battery, smart phone myself. As I'm guessing one would be acquiring a phone or taking one as well.

Having a mobile phone, maps and GPS, makes navigating a big city childs play.

Plus with a phone while out and about there's mostly hotspots for moderate access.

I have Virtual Private Network (VPN) clients on my phone.

This allows me to sit at a dubious hotspot and still make a secure connection to my VPN server and thus access banking data and etc.

The list of pluses for a phone from what I know about travelling don't make a tablet the best choice in my small blue planet.

My suggestions would be:

An app called Communicate which does an OK job of voice translation.

Kindle for buying books

Maps and GPS go without saying.

The rest really depends more on interest than anything.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

@ The Doctor: too late, already got the tablet. This is also for backing up photos, blog updating, emailing and othr stuff that a phone is a bit small for.

It comes with a maps app, not sure if it needs to be online or not for that to work.

That's cool, I'm just a tablet hater anyway. Laughing  Ignore me.

London Transport Live For London transport

Google Play Dropbox For photo and data backup/sharing in cloud storage

I too recommend  Cerberus

Smart Lock to slow down acccess to applications if your device gets in the wrong hands. Would advise login password too.

[Mod Edit :BH: Corrected the link to Smart Lock]
