I shot this with my LG 3D Max. I then swapped left and right so it would be a "stereo crossed" image.
I can also make red/cyan anaglyph images, but they require glasses to see the depth....and anaglyph embeds the parallax in the image....which doesn't work so well if objects in the image are at a variety of depths.

But 'stereo crossed' is about as good as it gets. Your own eyes adjust the parallax as you view the image and the colour is unaltered and focus is perfect.

What I'm trying to work out is how many of you can see stereo crossed images? Not everyone is able to gently cross their eyes until the left and right sides of the image merge....and depth becomes apparent. I have no difficulty at all doing this....but have no idea what proportion of people can't.

Help me out.

Can you see depth in this stereo crossed image by crossing your eyes? Let me know. Thanks. :-)

I think I might have seen some depth there, but when I had my eyes crossed about right, the focus was wrong, and when I focussed, the crossing went wrong.
Its like the magic eye books all over again!

It's the crossing that does it....so your right eye is looking at the left image and the left eye is looking at the right image....and your brain then sees the depth.

A parallel image is left on the left and right on the right (as the camera shot it)....and some people (not me) can see depth there as they are able to UN-cross / unconverge their eyes and focus separately on each image....and see depth. NO WAY can I do that....so I have some sympathy for people who can't do either.....cross or un-cross.

I can't see it (perhaps I'm not trying it correctly). It does hurt my eye muscles to do this.

Can you also put up the parallel image so that we can try that as well?

Ouch. yeah, I just can't quite cross my eyes enough to get them to "merge"

Hrrm might be because of the size... actually when I try I can do it with a *smaller* image and see a bit of a 3D effect:

It took me a while to get the two images to merge (I've had lots of practice in the past with Magic Eye and can see those without issue). When I finally got them to merge, I saw a 3D effect, but the crowd in the background were forward of the picture, and the people in front were moved to the back of the image.

I think the images are too large and far apart to see easily enough.

I can see it ok but the 3d affect is not very strong. Maybe as your've made the image too small and its lost its detail/sharpness.

Satch said the images are too far apart but I had the opposite problem.. they are too small. Maybe an image about 1/3-1/2 as big again might look better.. (Anything bigger then people's eyes will get really sore trying to see it via the cross eyed way)

No problem to see the 3D effect but was a little disconcerting to see the other images to the left and right... at least I could tell the one in the middle was 3D.

I found the little girl on right behind the Venders hand appeared to float forward (similar to what Satch may have seen). Probably due to the closeness of colours to her dress and his hand.

I think a larger image would have been easier to see the 3D in but that would probably be harder to tune into.

Wow, that was the clearest stereo crossed 3D image I have done so far! Nice :) Used the large version by the way.

If you're seeing the reverse-3D effect then you're looking at in parallel.....so maybe the parallel image would work for you. I'll upload it, too.

Worked really nicely after printing - found it quite difficult on the screen. Might be becaue of just a plain background and no monitor frame etc and being able to get physically close to the image :) memories of Salvador Dali's museum in Figuerues...

Here is the anaglyph version. I've shrunk it to 1024x768 in the hope that GZ will display it at something remotely resembling it's actual size....but I'll include a link to the larger version if GZ doesn't.

You need red / cyan (red / 'blue') 3D glasses to see the depth.... A larger version (may) be here.

So that's one out of....several. LOL!

I also post 3D images at phereo.com. They support viewing them in a variety of formats, as well as on 3D TVs and via phones with glasses-free 3D displays (like the LG 3D Max and the HTC Evo 3D and a Sharp 3D phone I don't know the model number of).
