I'm just wondering when and if the Nexus 7 is coming to NZ. I really hope it comes under $300.

Bond+Bond have preorders up at $439 (I'm not even joking!) for the 16GB model.

Straight conversion of $199 to NZD plus GST is $288, let alone shipping and nz tax. You're a bit optimistic lol

$439 is still a good price for what you are getting.

Think the other nexus thread explains the costings a bit better

Hrrmmm question is do I want to sell my iPad2 for this.

No! No must use current tech instead of falling for the materialistic "MUST GET NEXT BIG THING" thinking XD

MWHAHAAHAHAHAA... no :P

I have a t-shirt that says "Come over to the dark side, we have cookies"

I don't fall for that trick myself!

Plus it makes me feel less guilty when I DO buy new tech, cause in my head I can find a way of justifying it XD

It sounds like the N7 has a number of build quality issues such as light-bleed and poorly mounted screen internals. Hopefully it's just the usual story of the people who _don't_ have issues don't say anything.

Inclined to agree. if there are any problems being able to just take it back to the place you bought it from is worth something.....though importing the Nexus 7 from the US might see the total value low enough you don't pay GST.....

Given that even the 16GB N7 is only US$249 which is less than NZ$350 in value, there's no way you should be tagged with GST.

The cost of postage doesn't factor into the calculation.

Small point (don't want to derail discussion) but cost of postage IS included in calculations as to whether GST is collected.
"GST is calculated on the Customs value of the item plus tariff duty (note: some goods have no tariff duty), plus any freight and insurance costs incurred in bringing the goods to New Zealand"

Really!?  Bloody thieves.

ComGateway still haven't sent notification of receipt of my N7, not the quickest outfit to deal with considering that it should've reached them about 2 days ago. Bleh. The cost of saving a few bucks.

Yes It's true StevenNZ, you will need to have a total payment of $290 USD or less (including shipping and insurance) to be on the safe side (no cookies there I'm afraid) don't forget that customs have their OWN exchange rate. The last time I got something from the US, which was an order of some motorbike customization parts was $300 USD and they charged me $175NZD GST + fees because the maximum at the time was $298 USD (according to their exchange rate) lucky for me the receipt was $8USD less (including shipping, but I added an extra part and paid for it using paypal  with no receipt update). I sent them the receipt and they said, that's fine, we'll ship the stuff to you. ($2 was all it takes for them to charge me) lol.
