Hi there, have recently bought the Galaxy Tab 7.7 (P6800).  Think it originally came from Hong Kong. I got it at PB Tech.

I'd like to upgrade it to ICS but want to make sure I don't break it.  Anyone got step by step instructions on how I can do it?

Would greatly appreciate any advice, tips.

Thanks.

Download Kies from Samsung website to your PC - install.
Plug tab in and let it check firmware. Should be all good to get 4.04

The little things make the biggest difference.

It's about a 480Meg update so make sure the battery is charged .

OK, thanks very much.  Do I need to back up everything (docs, apps, etc) on the tab beforehand?

Did you get this to work? I too have a Tab 7.7 from PB Tech and it does not see any available updates OTA and when I attempt to connect to Kies it gives this error. I've installed Kies on three machines now with the same result.

I performed a factory reset and connected it again, and got an extension to the previous error.

Kies provides drivers. I have tried other forum posts of trying install older trivers, taking it offline to try and force the old driver usage and a variety of other hacks.

So far I no luck.

I had the same issue with Kies when I got my Tab 8.9. It took me a while to sort it, did involve manually finding the current driver and selecting it. I'm at work at present, will have a look when I get home for details.

I was able to overcome the driver issue by installing the Mac version (after contaminating 3 PCs with Kies), however, still no firmware update available :-(
