Hi all,

Can anyone recommend an App (Don't mind paying) for this? I work for a Govt Dept that doesn't have external Exchange connectivity so that rules that out. Google Apps Sync is only for Google Apps for Business accounts which I don't have. Ummm.....any other suggestions?

I am sorry to water this for you but...

Are you sure, 100% sure, a government department security policies allow you to send information OUT of their network to an American company, with servers who knows where, to relay those to a private handset?

I recommend you contact your IT department and request this kind of service from them.

Should also say I've got a Samsung S3 with a Custom ROM which rules out Kies. Even if I did have a Samsung ROM, I'd have to plug my phone in with USB (no Wifi on work desktop) and USB restrictions wouldn't allow me to write anything to it......

Pretty much, I want Google Apps Sync...for free

Calendar is fine but the line is "you're on your own"

Since I posted minutes ago, I realised that the standard here is an iPhone so I assume they have Exchange connectivity setup for them

If I sent my work calendar to an external service like Google I would probably get the sack, and I work in the private sector. This is likely a major breach of your ICT Security Policy.

I've been asking here for a long time if I can get email and calendar on my Android phone via ActiveSync and even then I am told that it's just not secure enough. For example, there is nothing they can do to stop me say receiving an email/calendar invite via ActiveSync on my phone, then forwarding that email out via a personal email account.

Google Calendar Sync. If you're able to install it on your PC will sync your Outlook calendars to your selected Google account.

It has been discontinued but still works fine.

I was simply presenting a valid option to the question of how do I sync my Outlook calendar to my Android device.

I would never suggest such a thing be done on a PC inside a govt dept:-p

Is the handset the OP using an employer supplied handset?

Surely your department has people who use mobile/calendar on mobile devices?

But then he also mentions people using their iPhones with it? If so it should be simply be easy as manually inputting the exchange settings into the Android email client.

you can have ActiveSync setup on exchange and only people that have been granted ActiveSync rights can connect and download email etc, also in exchange 2010 you can have different policy for iphone and androids.

I am from a Govt IT background, I would put a request to your IT department if it is permitted they will arrange it. The Dept I worked for certainly would not allow it.

Perhaps ActiveSync permissions are given to specific devices/users only. There are a number of platforms out there to manage devices, but maybe the OP has a personal device and they don't allow BYOD?

If you issue staff with say an iPhone, you can lock it down pretty tightly, but you can't really expect to be able to do the same with personally owned device.

It won't be synced but how about export it from google then import it into google. That's what I do and just update it a couple of weeks (my calendar does't change much from week to week)

I too work for a government department (I guess), but if anybody really wants to know about my teaching schedule, or when my department meetings are they are free to find out
