Hi all,

Basically I was wondering if Samsung has a replacement product that is comparable to the S2 but running on newer, smaller more efficient chipset?

So to be clear here, I'm not necessarily after a more powerful phone. Just one thats running on a smaller die and thus (hopefully) runs longer and cooler. If it happens to just be a more powerful chipset too, thats fine.

I came across an Ativ S which seemed quite nice but is a Windows only phone.

Thoughts?

(also if I am screwed for Samsung options, what about other brands?)

The S2 Plus came out a while back. Same look, new hardware. Otherwise the Galaxy Premier or S3 and S4 Mini's would be the closest.

as per Brad however the mini's are quite expensive IMHO. The S2 was/is a very good phone and was top end in its day. Any particular reason you want to stay with Samsung?

thanks guys. Yeah I dont mind other brand suggestions.

Just on the side, I liked the S2s more solid and square design than the newer curved and wobbly s3 and newer.

anything between the price point of an s2 and s3?

What price are you basing that on? The S3 mini dropped down to around $330 just recently.

The S2 Plus still has a reasonably small battery (1650mAh), 480p screen and some Broadcom SOC (1.2GHz A9) that I haven't really heard much about.

If you are willing to spend ~$500 you could get the Sony Xperia SP which has a 2300mAh battery, 720p screen and a 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Krait SOC (28nm). Those are better specs than the S4 mini.

HTC One Mini

4.3" Screen, same as the S2 but 720p.
1.4Ghz Snapdragon 400
2GB RAM

Should be available within the next couple of months. This would be my pick for a new 'smaller' phone.

Given how much better the HTC One is than the Galaxy S4 (yes this is my opinion, deal with it) and that the Galaxy mini's really are quite underwhelming it would be hard to beat this. All the awesome of the One in a smaller package.

How about a Nexus 4. I see Warehouse Stationary has then for $499 today..
