I am looking at replacing an aging iPad1 that has served well. I have been looking at the Sony Xperia Z tablet, it looks good and a lot of the reviews are favourable. Is there any one here with real time experience and use of this device that could share their experience with it.

I got one just recently and it was my first Android tablet after using an iPad since they were first released.

If you're used to using an Android phone then essentially that's what it is but on a bigger scale, much like an iPhone is to an iPad.

There definitely aren't as many tablet optimised apps as there are on the iPad, and some apps (mostly games) only work in portrait mode which kind of looks and feels a bit odd seeing as it's a 16:9 tablet.

The battery life isn't as great as the iPad but I still get a good two to three days of usage before needing to recharge.

The display is awesome, and I'm a real stickler for display quality. It has a PPI less than the iPad but I couldn't tell. Text is sharp and crisp, photos and videos look good.

It really is unbelievably thin and light and you can hold it for hours without getting a sore hand.

A lot of reviews I read said the speakers were terrible but I don't think they're that bad. They're stereo speakers and I pretty much only use them for watching YouTube videos but I don't have a problem with them.

The flaps covering the ports are a bit finnicky, but in turn you can use the tablet in the shower or the bath if you wanted to!

If you're coming from the original iPad then it's a huge step up! I switched from the latest iPad so that's what my comparisons are based on, but you'll notice a big difference.

It really is a fingerprint magnet, front and back. This may not be an issue for you but you'll certainly notice it.

Thanks heaps for that. I am disabled and this affects the use of my hands, do you think there would any hassles with the weight of the tablet and holding it.

None at all it really is thin and light and easy to hold. An iPad would get uncomfortable in my hand, this one never does.
