A few family members have recently purchased Samsung Galaxy S3 Minis and use WhatsApp.
When they send videos (20secs for example) they can only select 10secs of the video to send.

I have WhatsApp on my iPhone and am able send longer videos than 10secs.

Is there a way of allowing more than 10secs on there phones? One family member has an old Android phone and are able to send longer than 10secs.

I would guess its the size, not length, of the videos that matters. This would depend on the resolution and encoding on each phone?

Possibly

I've had a look around to see if you can reduce the resolution of the video but couldn't find any option for that.

Its just weird a much older Android phone works fine but not these S3 Mini's

Yes sorry I know nothing about Whatsapp. But newer high end phones will tend to take higher resolution and higher frame rate video, which will therefore be bigger.

Thats what I was thinking too but I have an iPhone 5 which you'd assume would take better videos and I can send through 10sec+ videos fine over Whatsapp

An alternative is to install whatsapp+
Download here - http://www.whatsapp-plus.net/download.php
The XDA thread has been removed, I think once the donate version popped up.  There are some youtube vids going over the additional features http://youtu.be/Dn5GpyCczfk

This is a moddified version of whatsapp which allows several additional features like themes plus also options to change photo and video limits.

Not ideal perhaps, but a possible workaround!
