So I have a telecom android phone which is eligible for the free 1Gb per day wifi. That's great but I would like to surf on this connection on my laptop while on holiday.
Is there a way to do that? Is it breaking the rules?

you can connect to the wifi on your laptop too... if it can get signal

Oh ok
I thought the connection must authenticate through the phone somehow.
I'm not near a hotspot at the moment so can't try it.

It's only two devices now. Just connect to the Wifi hotspot with your laptop, enter your mobile number on the authentication Web Page and type in the code sent to the phone as a text.

Its that many at the same time, if you connect another it seems to just kick one of the other devices off.

Won't you have a problem setting your cell phone up as a WiFi hotspot and trying to access Telecom's WiFi at the same time. Normally when tethered WiFi access on the phone stops..

I think the point is that you don't need to tether. You can connect other devices directly to the hotspot.

I think the point is that you don't need to tether. You can connect other devices directly to the hotspot.

But you have to validate your cell number before you can connect unless the OP had a laptop with a 3G SIM. I found that if I took my validated SIM out and put another in for testing when the original one was put back I could no longer connect to Telecom's WiFi unless I revalidated the number..

Edit: I see from jonb post how it is done..
