I have been playing with my HTC ONE M8 over the last day (Thanks Telecom/Geekzone) and its great and I want to install Google Wallet on it but the play store says "This app is incompatible with your device." but I have read other people have it running on the same phone. So the question is.. WHO decides wether it can be installed on a certain phone? or I can install it somehow outside the Store?

The Phone has NFC and it can identify..

- my AirNZ Airpoints Card (Paypass),
- My Access Card to a Certain Telco Datacentre
- Access Card to a Gym.

but cannot see:

- Westpac Mastercard Paypass CC
- BNZ Global Plus Visa Paywave card

Sees Something on my ANZ Paypass CC but have to keep moving it around the top back quite a lot but fails all the time getting anything.

Is the phone "faulty" or is there different types of NFC Cards which the HTC Doesn't like to even see?

Anyone help?

I have tried:

NFC Taginfo
NFC Tools

and both can identify ok the same cards and not read the same group of cards.

The NFC Reader location on the phone is on the Back upper around where the rear camera is..

Ah. google wallet is only available in the USA using a USA Sim Card. So how do have others got it working in NZ?

I've never encountered any cards my S3 wouldn't read.

Does anyone else have a HTC One (m8) who can try it works with all NFC Cards ? If it works on other people's ones should I place a fault for a "free" phone. It didn't come with any invoice/contact details/warrenty information (Just a piece of paper which said thanks)

I have the same phone (thanks Telecom!) and it can read my Westpac PayPass MasterCard, Air NZ ExpresssPay American Express card, and ASB Debit PayWave Visa.

One thing to note is that sometimes it can get into a state where it rejects everything you touch it to. When this happens, go to Settings > More and DISABLE NFC and re-enable it. That'll restart the services that handle it and let it talk to things again.

Freitasm has one and may be able to test. I'd just borrowed it for a couple of days to play with but gave it back today.

What can you read from a credit card anyway? I thought it couldn't get much information from that...

Have you tried this trick with a NZ passport?

Only thing you can really read is the IC info, the card identifier (e.g. "ASB Visa" or "MasterCard") and information on what applications are present (typically just Proximity Payment System Environment and Global Platform card manager).

Interestingly, an ASB Visa will report what OS it's running, a Westpac MasterCard will not.

I tried my Wife's UK Passport and yes it works fine.

You just get the credit card number and expiry date.

Still cannot read of my my Paywave/Paypass Cards (except the Airpoints Cards) :-( I've used the Westpac one recently on a machine and worked fine.

All the other cards I have be be very precise in the location of the cards so maybe the Antenna is crap in mine (why I wanted to compare with another HTC One m8)

As I was saying, my M8 works fine for reading the cards. If it stops reading them, restart NFC (disable then re-enable) and try again.

Since the topic is about Google Wallet, you can install it via sideload. Get the apk from Xda, however there is no way to make it work for payments here. It just denies international payments. Successfully sideloaded on HTC One M7 and M8 and Galaxy S5.

My M8 only reads some cards quite consistently but other cards not at all. Does anyone have some spare time this weekend I can come over and test my M8 vs someone else's M8 and see how they compare.

Then to get a replacement phone ...(somehow) if it the phone fault.

Also I tried side loading Google Wallet and it installed ran fine but to "make it work" you need to prove you are a USA resident with your SS number etc :-(
