Merry Christmas folks, hoping for some guidance or maybe I need some divine intervention.

Yesterday I installed CyanogenMod on my S4 using the CyangenMod installer from CyangenMod.org. Can recommend, the whole process went without a hitch and so far I really like my new ROM. But I have one problem.

One of the few apps that I really liked on my phone, and that I used quite often was the Navigon navigation app that came preloaded on the phone. This has been lost in the process of flashing my ROM (no surprises there). I expected that I should be able to download the application again but so far I am having no joy. I have looked on the Navigon site, the google play store and the Samsung app store. The Samsung app store is the only place that I can find a link to the correct version but it won't download to my computer or my phone.

So, what are my options? If I revert to the original ROM will the app magically reappear on my phone? Or at least, will this enable me to re-download the app from the Samsung site? If I am successful in getting it back onto my phone, is it the possible to make a backup of this app so that I can install it after I flash the phone with CyangenMod?

Failing this, can anyone recommend a good navigation app for NZ, preferably free and preferably one that works without mobile data.

I believe navigon functionality has been rolled into Google maps. Get the latest version of that & it should navigate better than your old version

I've had varying degrees of success with Navfree, MapFactor and OsmAnd. I'm now using Sygic, which isn't free but does the job.

Must have another look at Here Maps. Wasn't overly impressed last time I gave it a whirl but willing to give it another go.

freitasm, I remember your original post on this a few months ago. I never got around to trying it then, but if all else fails I will give it a shot soon.

As an update, I have flashed back to my TNZ ROM and can confirm that I have Navigon back again. I figure that my best shot is to back up the Navigon app with something like Titanium Backup but for some reason I can't get root now. SuperSU tells me that there are no binaries installed.

I will update again if I ever manage to dig myself back out of this root hell-hole

Yeah, if you went back to stock firmware (ROM) you'll need to re-root again; I've found Chainfire's autoroot to be good.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that your idea (backup Navigon using Titanium and restore once on Cyanogen) was what I did when I had my last Samsung; but that was getting on towards a couple of years ago now, so the old brain has faded a bit, so can't be 100% certain.

Google Maps Offline feature is nowhere comparable to having maps stored on your device all the time.

Yip, that's pretty well bang on, but what a mission. When I initially restored with Titanium I selected APP+DATA and got an error when I started Navigon. Restored again, this time APP ONLY and everything is sweet. Will road test tomorrow:)
