The new Huawei Smart watch is quite a good looking device and a good start from the Chinese company

Sadly we're not expecting to see it on store shelves any time soon, Huawei executives said tentatively "middle of the year," but that doesn't stop us getting our hands all over it in Barcelona at MWC. And that's exactly what we did.

Bugger - always good to have another competitor though - round screens don't seem to be as hard as they used to be given the sheer number of devices with them currently.

Yeah, best looking smart watch to date...

Was hoping for Samsung to announce the Orbis...

The Huawei one is EASILY the best looking from my point of view, leaves even the Moto 360 of both generations in the dust on that front. Will be interested to check one out sometime, I presume PB Tech will get these in once available.

Thanks for the links. Nice to see another smartwatch with a round face - I find the square faces of the Apple Watch etc make such watches scream "I'm a geek toy" and remind me too much of the '80s calculator watches, whereas this, the Moto 360 and the LG Urbane at least do a good job of looking like a "conventional" watch (or at least the type of watch I find attractive!).

I see the new Moto 360 has been announced, and it retains the black band at the base of the screen - one of the things that's put me off buying the first gen (that and the battery life, which is apparently far better with the new 360).

It'll be interesting to see the price of the Huaweis and new Moto 360s once they reach NZ, but at this point I think I'd be selecting from either of these as the aesthethics of the Urbane don't quite do it for me, the Watch R is just a bit 'cheap' looking, and I'm not convinced on purchasing a device running Tizen (despite the new Gear S2 having a round face and far better looks than its predecessor).

I was certainly keen to get one (on paper), but a visit to the local HN convinced me otherwise - the watch is a BEAST! By this I mean not fire-breathing or even ugly - just enormous in size, and too unsubtle as a watch.

But I was enticed at the same time by the Gear S2 Classic, which was far less blingy, thinner (the biggest aesthetic weakness of smart watches thus far), and generally (I think) more attractive. I even decided I could live with a watch running Tizen, given that the bezel provides such a great user interface compared to all other smart watches. I almost bought it but then DSE had their silly sale and I spent the money on a Sony A6000 camera instead!

My wife's offered to buy a S2 Classic for my birthday, but I'm wondering if there'll possibly be a newer version of something better (given these are still early gen devices) by April or soon after...

HN seem to be displaying the worst looking of the watch, that is a chrome version. I think they prefer you purchased their pet brand, Samsung.

Personally, I don't think it matters what the watch is finished in - all of the Huawei watches are just too thick and substantial to look anything other than an early-gen smart watch, whereas I'm after something I find aesthetically pleasing and well-balanced, things I don't believe the Huawei watches manage.

Would you be happy to wear something that chunky on your wrist?

I compared a Huawei with my Seiko and my son's Citizen and they are more or less the same dimensions.

Love a bigger watch. I only buy large sized watches, so this sounds tempting.

It's a matter of personal choice as with all jewelry, my Seiko watch is quite big, my Apple watch is also quite big, it is what I am used to and find easy to see.
