Looks like there are going to be two Nexus phones coming this year. I think I am going to save my pennies and get the LG nexus given my current experience with my Honor 6. I think something that looks like the P8, but with a Qualcomm SOC could be good, and at least you won't be relying on Huawei to update drivers for the SOC.

My Honor has been the exact same situation as every other Huawei I have had. Firmware that comes on the phone is OK, subsequent firmwares are average at best, and there are only promises about future updates. EMUI 3 is barely a beta on my phone, and given the look of it, I will believe lollipop is coming only when it actually arrives on my device. Maybe lollipop and EMUI 3.1 will arrive, maybe not.

Can you imagine the outcry if a Nexus only got supported through one upgrade cycle like the rest of Huawei's phones.

If Huawei make a Nexus device it will have the same software update programme as every other Nexus device.

The Mate 7 is a well made phone but the software is weak. Having a Google Android build on it would be a great thing.

If Google hits a similar bargain pricepoint of the N5 along with a world wide distribution strategy as per the N6/9/Chromecast Playstore they could be hitting a homerun

Updates will be no problem, hardware will be fairly well optimised, either phone will hit its intended mark i'm sure

I am nursing my aging HTC One along until I can buy a Nexus phone with USB Type-c

Yep, only if it is not using their HiSilicon chipset though. If it uses that, it is entirely at the mercy of Huawei to support the next iterations of Android with drivers. I can only guess that there is some support provision for you must support X versions of Android when you make a Nexus, but look what happened with the Nexus S. TI stopped supporting the OMAP chipsets = no Kitkat.

Nexus devices have a better defined support life time now, pretty sure Huawei/LG/anyone would have to commit to that.

I most likely would . It's the Huawei software that lets their phones down the hardware seems fine. With a Huawei Nexus I suspect it would be great just with the Google software on it..

Short answer: probably

Longerer answer: For the most part I have been impressed with the quality of Huawei hardware I have used. The software less so, but that is more in Google's hands for a Nexus device, and Google will demand a certain standard from anyone who makes a Nexus device.

I'd possibly pay a premium for an LG device. I really love my Nexus 5 (and I loved the price point), but I'd have to weigh up the differences between the devices vs. cost. I wouldn't pay more just for the LG name, there would have to be a worthwhile specification premium.
