My Sony XZ is compatible with Qualcomm 3.0.

Sony are supposed to have a charger, UC-12W, which does that but it does not appear to be available anywhere in the world, much less in NZ. It shows on the Sony website but just says not available, everywhere. I rang the Sony Store but to be honest it wasn't much different from ringing Dick Smith if you know what I mean. I can't go in person to ask, as the Wellington Sony Store closed down and the only one is in Auckland.

Does anyone know of a good quality QC3 charger? I can find QC2 chargers but no 3's.

Wow that's expensive. I picked up one of the brilliant Anker QC3.0's for US$29.99 last month in the US.

In reply to the OP it's unfortunate that you can't get decent charging brands like Anker and Ravpower in NZ. Pretty much everything on the market is pretty average.

I bought this from Aliexpress for US$28 - 2 QC 3.0 ports and 4 'smart' normal ones (5V @2.4A). Saw the brand on Android Central or Authority and from what I can see/feel its a high quality device. It's the central charging spot in our place!

It would be interesting to know how much faster the XZ will charge with a QC3.0 charger vs a QC2.0 charger. Theoretical speed is very different to real world speeds as many vendors have slowed down charging rates to improve battery life.

QC2.0 is a huge jump compared to regular charging - my Z5 will draw up to around 1300ish mAh on my conventional Anker charger and well under 1A on most other chargers. Plug it into a conventional USB port or something like the USB port on an Air NZ plane and you'll see it drawing 500 mAh maximum. It will draw up to 2100 mAh on my Ravpower QC2.0 and Anker QC3.0 battery pack. In my latest Z5 update last week Sony have introduced their charging optimisation feature which I believe was being rolled out across all their products.

From the QV3.0 devices I've played with QC3.0 charging isn't the huge leap that QC2.0 was. They mainly seem to be using it to fast charge for a set period of time (such as a 15 min quick top up) and then dropping to more conservative charging rates to preserve the battery lifespan.

It just seems so strange that (a) Sony would design and advertise a charger on their website that is unobtainable anywhere in the world AFAICS and that (b) there are so few other choices for something that is likely to be popular.

Accessories don't always ship at the same time as a phone. If you'd posted this last week I could have had a look in Japan for you when I was there.

While there may be a shortage of QC3.0 chargers here it's mainly just because retailers are useless. The choices aren't limited elsewhere where you can simply buy something like an Anker or Ravpower from Amazon. I have a AUKEY charger I picked up last month in the US for testing but am not a great fan of their brand - they look really cheap and performance isn't as good as Anker or Ravpower.

@tanivula you have one of these in regular use? Is it generally good? No weird high pitched noises from it? No overheating? I've wanted a better USB charger for a while but they're all a bit more than I wanted to pay, this looks pretty good.

It looks like a total Anker ripoff. Probably made in the same factory so it might be a good copy!

Yeah. I don't want to save $20 and burn down my house, for example. The Anker ones are pretty cheap on Amazon, but don't ship directly to NZ. The RavPower has six ports, US$30 inc shipping to NZ, but doesn't have fast charge - which I don't need but seems sensible for the future. Might have to wait for my next youshop order.

QC3.0 is not supposed to be used on type C usb connectors, as that has power delivery as part of the specs.

I would say that most charger vendors are not wanting to make something which is basically at the end of its usefulness since things are moving to type C connectors.

Yes, some phones will negotiate QC over a type C port, but that violates specs as there is no check that the cable is also capable of the higher voltages and could damage them since there are active ones.

@timmmay Haven't fully loaded it yet (with 6 devices), but haven't heard any high pitched noises when I've had 3 (1 on QC and 2 on normal ports) plugged into it. So far so good!

I totally forgot about the XZ being USB-C

The OP isn't really after a QC3.0 charger, but a USB-C charger since this will deliver the best QC3.0 performance
