Kodi can be set for HTTP remote control under the services menu. This works for me on my local network with Windows Kodi from an Android browser. It does not work the other way around. I get a 'file not found' error when I try to access Kodi on Android from either Windows or Android. Why does it work one way but not the other? Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong here?

Likely the distribution doesn't know how to handle it on that device.

If you have a smart phone, just use Kore. Much better

No smart phone. I'm just trying to control kodi from a laptop.

I just set Kore up on my Android tablet but it says it can't connect, even after I have correctly added all info manually. Is there something on the Shield that I don't know about the prevents incoming connections?

Some decices just don't like webservers.

Be sure to try all ports as browser/android may default to 80

I got it working. You just have to do everything twice. Thanks for the tip about Kore. It is kind of cool but unfortunately it still doesn't quite do what I hoped. I can control the Shield but I still can't view info I need. I have to actually click on something before it gets echoed back. But I can't see a list of options on the page. I will play with it some more.

Huh? What info/options.

Kore is a remote for chosing library items directly. Or being like an IR remote with menu, back, nav and other shortcut buttons to bring up things like synopsis and so on

Screenshots give an idea. http://kodi.wiki/view/Kore

Problem I'm finding with Kore is it doesn't even update the library. I have new shows and new episodes, they're not in Kore.

Theres a bit of a fluff with not only Kore but the scraper in Kodi at the mo. Heaps of people saying pre-existing stuff not updating since 3.0.1 rolled out end of NOV.

Struck it at a mates other day. Trick is to set to none and re-enable.

But the list in Kore, is standalone it seems so needs to be forced.. Goto the library :'s and refresh

I can refresh movies but not tv, I get an internal error.

What are you saying to set to none then re enable? Can't find any sync settings in settings.

The content type. There was an API change at some point, theres a back-end error that isn't obvious without debug logs.

To refresh the entire library, you will need to go to your source folder(s), bring up the context menu ('c' or long-press enter) and select Change content.
First change the content type to 'None' and agree to remove the contents from the library when prompted.  You will not lose watched/unwatched status on the files!
Repeat, but this time setting the content back to TV Shows.  Make sure the information provider is The TVDB, and check the settings!
If you are not using English as your default language you may need to turn on the new Fallback language setting.

The library is updating fine on PC and raspberry pi, just not in Kore. Should I try a reinstall of Kore?

Reinstalling Kore worked :) Not reinstalling Korea like autocorrect suggested!

I've got an android TV and am running the android variant of kodi (will hunt down the actual name soon).

Is it time to move to the real Kodi again, and is there any hope of getting a harmony remote talking to this properly (as in pause button on the remote actually pauses Kodi , instead of the ok button bringing up the menu and having to navigate to pause etc?)

Cheers.

Nooooo. Heavy on resources. SPMC is the way to stay on the lower end boxes. Just watch the versioning, some older chipsets (rockchip) were dropped so you have to stick down with 14/15 http://spmc.semperpax.com/

And if you have a WORKING harmony set already. Edit the key layout file to your custom :D
