Bought my Note 8 at launch and until about 6 weeks ago my battery life was brilliant, comfortable 5 hours screen on time. Now I get about 2-2.5 hours and google play services is the culprit. I've done everything imaginable to figure it out, reset, clear caches, fresh phone install. Disabled all the bloat, then disabled all the other stuff through PDP, turned off the permissions, limited background data. Everything and anything. Still Google Play Services is ruining my phone. I'm having to charge me phone 2-3 times a day.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Could have a hardware issue be causing it? I'm obviously still under warranty but my job requires I have a phone and a smart one, so returning it while VF look at the issue would be a real hassle.

Have you tried changing the battery usage mode to battery saving to stop Google Play Services turning GPS on (or ensuring it's turned on) every time an app requests your location? Have you also disabled location tracking features?

You could also try disabling the Auto-Sync feature if the above doesn't work. This would be a bit of a pain though as you'd have to go into things like your email app to get emails as you wouldn't be automatically advised of them.

Yep all that is done. No app has location services allowed, I don't use it for anything.

Samsung Cloud autosync is enabled, it doesn't allow me to unselect it, it never finishes loading.

Couple of suggestions:

1. Turn all permissions ON

(Let google services complete whatever it is determined to do)

2. Register for beta version of google play services (not the store)

Does it do the same in the original reset configuration without app updates?

Unless you have some replacement service contract with the telco you might be in the classic buy a new one and sell it after the service position or make the service coincide with a two week holiday..
