Hi All,

I've recently updated to Android 8.1 on the Nokia 5, and am finding that the screen stays on when on a call.

It's become really annoying as my chubby jowls keep turning other things on and off as the screen registers my checks as an input.

Any advice?  I'm loath to do a factory restart at this stage if I don't have to.  I haven't found anything in the settings, and my google-fu is failing me.  (All I could find was references to possibly the proximity sensors being incorrectly installed.

Cheers in advance.

Linux:

Yes check the setting for this option

Do you know where the option is?  I've tried Phone -> Settings -> Display (That's for displaying the contacts, not the screen)

I can't see anything in the settings, search for "Display", "Screen" and "Proximity" turn up nothing relevant (and nothing in the last option)

Cheers

Does your phone app have any settings? Not the system settings, but go into your actual phone app and then look for a menu and settings in there.

It does - but nothing to say to keep the display on/off during a call :-/

The only solution I've found so far is to press the power button, which retains the call, but turns off the display.

I guess it's my own fault for using a smart phone as a device to call and talk to people ... :-)

Cheers!

Have you installed a screen protector?

Some of them can interfere with the Proximity Sensor and cause this fault, though usually it's the opposite (the screen turns off and won't turn on because it thinks it's against your head even if it's not)

Download CPU-Z from the Play Store (free, has ads I think, I paid the few bob to remove them) and its Sensors tab has a Proximity sensor.

Move your hand close the screen and away, see if it's working.

If it's not, you have to find out why.  If it IS working fine then yea, it might be a rouge app or something else keeping the screen alive.

Thanks for the CPU-Z suggestion.  And I'm an 1D10T - Google fu turned up a thread on the nokia forum - with the helpful code to get into the testing menu, I discovered that the sensor wasn't working at all.   So I tried the suggested reboot.  And now it's working.

Argh.

Cheers to all that have chimed in ... I'm off to reprimand for not rebooting first ...
