Apparently Huawei says the P30 Pro can take very sharp photos of the moon but apparently what it actually does is, if AI detects you taking photos of the moon is deletes your photo and loads a pre existing moon photo into your gallery instead of the processing the one you just captured.

It's all in Chinese but thought I'd put it out there.

Should I be surprised?

mind you I'm not doubting the technology, it really does take a 50x zoom (50x compared to the middle wide angle, that is), yes it actually does that.

And yes, it actually takes photos of the dark when you can't even see, yes it does that.

Technology, no question.

But allegedly lying about moon mode and faking the moon ....

It allegedly does that. I haven't seen anyone else able to replicate this issue from the tech community yet.

The comments on the article linked seems to hint at this theory being disproven/ explained

Sounds like bs. It'll need two orientation for northern vs southern hemisphere. Easy to fool the phone location to test.

Maybe it's just more propaganda against Huawei....
I will test the theory out when moons out again turning off AI and Internet access should result in fair pic?

Or Will I have to do more to find the truth out?

Kinda off-topic, but if anyone's interested, here's a link to a 291MB, 81 megapixel uncompressed photo of the moon, which is made from a composite of 50,000 photos shot from two cameras.

I have it set as the wallpaper on my phone, looks absolutely stunning on an AMOLED display.

Unless someone comes with evidence, I am calling bullshit. Remember "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof"

Does anyone have a sharp picture of the moon from a p30.? If its faking it on my phone they need to up their game as my pics need improving. Haven't taken on tripod yet.
I'm calling fake as the quality is so low vs holding camera up to my $30 telescope eyepiece. Id love them to give me option for fake moon though. Especially with landscapes etc

What huawei showed was how amazing it is to have stabilisation work well enough to take the shot. If you have used telescope would have experienced wind or eye tapping eyepiece knocking moon out of view. Yet here can have phone at arms length and keep relatively steady.

I've seen example on net as ridiculous as claiming camera can't focus cause to bright etc which is bollocks and easily reseted with any other phone and a telescope.

I've also noticed focus slightly out. When you tap to fucus as it's scans it always goes slightly out of focus so not seeing all detail in final picture. Hopefully they correct the issue. Or maybe I just shake to much.

Doesn't GPS still work fine in aeroplane mode? I believe aeroplane mode only turns off functions that require radio transmissions FROM the phone itself (e.g. cellular, WiFi, etc). Maybe I'm wrong.

Somehow I don't think Huawei would be able to download a replacement photo (or enhancements to the one you've taken) via GPS...

I read the original article in Google translate a few days ago. I'm not sure if it's still there.

It's an AI feature. These features are becoming common. Can it be turned off? Looks like it can. It's an optional feature.

I think my moon photo is now more doctored than ever, now that Google is getting away from Huawei.

On the serious side, I am sure if I put the phone on a tripod, set it for night mode and do a timed shot it will be perfect.

It's no wonder us DLSR users are throwing older bodies in the trash and not investing anymore.
