Anyone had any experience/thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy A series models?

This A range has absorbed the J range now, and takes over as that decent tech in a basic housing (all plastic, no weather sealing etc)

Spec wise it seems quite good and will be supported for a while being new.

Comes with Android 9/Pie standard.

These guys seem really happy with it.

Considering the A50 for Spark.
Only seems to be listed at Noel Leeming so far though, for $549, which is a bit odd.

Nice phone. I hope the one released here has LTE band 28 (700)  on it as the GSM Areana  one doesn't show it.

It's a price point driven situation for me.  I'm sure the A80 will be excellent.

Yes limited info.  Seems this model has been released earlier in India, so a lot of the reviews are coming from there.

Hoping there is a model that supports Spark fully, as that's what we'll need in this particular case.

The Samsung NZ site does have these phones listed, but the 'where to buy' button doesn't work yet 🤔

They are being sold all over Asia. I have seen them in person and they are as described by the reviewers.

It could be that Samsung NZ wants to protect the sales of the premium models and the market is too small to dump competing models.

Yeah I'm not sure if it's just too early for the NZ release (seriously these are only listed on the Noel Leemings site) or if there's more to it as you say.

At the lower end, these are replacing the J series, so model wise they're downsizing by default anyway.

Definitely fits the bill requirement wise, but no chance for competition pricing just yet.

I set up an A30 for one of our staff this morning. Its a good looking phone. I'll have to take one for a drive before I can comment on its performance.

In terms of the performance it will be the same as a flagship Samsung as per the reviews (I saw one review where everything opens about 0.1ms slower than the S10 plus!), other than when you are doing crazy things like video editing or high end gaming.

But the Samsung baggage is not insignificant, I like everything about the Samsung but for the annoying Samsung stuff that you cannot turn off, but I think that probably goes for any non original Google device.

Yeah the Nokia series run that Android One stock OS which is quite appealing.
Bloatware is everywhere and customisations limit the ability for a company to easily release updates down the line.

Half expected JB hifi and warehouse stationery to be ordering the A30/50 options by now.

now before anyone asks whether I have buyer remorse, the answer is no because I bought the S10 for the best all round cameras (not the best of anything but right up there as overall, nothing beats everyone but no weakness). but if you are not after the best cameras, then you should buy something else. if you want the best night still camera or the best zoom, and don't care about anything else, then you want the P30 Pro for example. really depends on what you want.

I'd have no issues buying that as long as they don't have ultrasonic fingerprint sensors (they are the latest tech fail)

From the several vids I've seen, looks like a good one, but wish they didn't go with the inscreen fingerprint scanner. They just don't compare speed wise with the normal ones, particularly for this price/performance range.  Yes it's the 'in thing' to do, but form over function!

The optical ones are very good. Just not the ultrasonic ones.

I see pbtech have listed the A70 on their website now for $749. Tempting, the overseas config was triple slot (dual Sim + SD card) without b28. Watching this space!

Lack of B28 on parallel imports has put me off buying a dual SIM version.

No b28 yikes

So premium phones have all the bands and mid tier phones don't?
