I just want to run an app on my phone when the charger is plugged in. So I set a profile of USB connected Any and a task of Launch App with the appropriate app name but it doesnt launch the app. Phone is a Samsung Galaxy A71 running Android 11.

What am I doing wrong or not doing?

Thanks.

Have you given Tasker any and all permissions it requires?

And to confirm, you have State, Power, Power, (Source=) ANY?

The Profile you need to be using is State > Power > Power > Source > Any

Then set it to run your task.

Just tested this on my Pixel 4a and it works both when I connect my phone to the PC or to the charger.

It's about as basic as it comes, so shouldn't be an issue if Tasker is set up in the system properly.

With that sorted, how would I do the following.....

I have Tasker installed on a tablet and I need to run an app on that tablet when I plug my phone into it, can that be done? Thanks.

Curious. Will have to look into it. How are you connecting your phone to the tablet, and what is the purpose?

Was hoping to keep this simple but here goes...

The "tablet" is actually a car head unit running Android 10 with Android Auto capability but AA doesnt automatically start up when I plug in my phone, an app on the head unit has to be run and then the AA connection is made.

I am trying to automate this process so that when I plug my phone into the head unit, Tasker will then start the connection app and the AA connection between phone and head unit is made. That is why I initially was trying to use  USB Connection Any.

Any other suggestions on how I could accomplish this would be appreciated.

How about have the headunit run the app when the phone is connected to the headunit via Bluetooth?

Add profile, select: State, Net, BT Connected, Name=phone (hit the magnifying glass and select your phone)

I have found the functionality of Tasker on unrooted phones has got more and more restricted by limitations Google puts in Android. At the moment I have to do some things such as toggling mobile data using Bixby, which still seems to have root level access on Samsung phones.

What would be great is a Tasker plug-in that bridges across to Bixby. Anybody been able to find such a plug-in?

I think you can bridge to Google Assistant, but I've not seen anything with Bixby.

Hmm, although the head unit and phone are paired, they do not connect automatically so I have to go into bluetooth settings and connect manually.

Can you use the same method as your original question, and run Android Auto when power is connected? That should run Android Auto when the tablet/headunit is powered up (since the headunit turns on when the car is started, right?).
