It's time to replace my wife's mobile phone. She only uses it for calling and texting but for a replacement she is very keen on having a wireless charging model.

I searched for wireless charging models but the term "wireless charging" is so broad that it returns every phone sold in New Zealand.

Can anyone recommend a basic phone for sale that offers wireless charging?

Thanks for any advice.

None of the Samsung A series phones do, but the Galaxy S + FE models do have it - kind of annoying because it's the only thing the A73 is really missing!

All iPhones including the low-end iPhone SE support wireless charging which is nice if you want the cheaper iPhone model.

Annoyingly wireless charging seems largely reserved for too end phones these days. I've only really seen it in iphones, Samsung S series and other flagship devices like the top Xiaomi mi devices.

Like you it annoys me as I'd actually be fine with an A53 generally but I've invested in wireless chargers and it's a feature I love having. Considering once upon a time it was in cheaper nokia and nexus devices I don't see why it couldn't be in cheaper devices other than being something they can use to push more premium devices.

Search for "Qi charging" instead.

Incidentally, the original Qi chargers were good for 10W, newer Type-C interface chargers are good for 15W.

One of the nice things to get is a Qi charger/phone holder for in your car. I'd suggest *not* getting the latest thing which has a little motorised gadget for gripping the phone, because then you have to remember to grab your phone before turning the car off.

Wireless charging is still a 'premium' feature limited to the top-end for the most part. Once you have it - and have invested in a home/office/car ecosystem of wireless chargers - hard to go back. For best value, an ex-demo or refurb from a previous flagship series is the way to go. Galaxy S20 FE is a great pick if you can find the SM-G780G model with Snapdragon 865. There is still some stock kicking around in NZ and it can be had on sale sub-$700.

The main advantage is you plug in the pad once and just chuck your phone on witleess chargers. The disadvantage though is if you ever don't use wireless chargers and need a cable you'd have to unplug the pad and leave the wire dangling while you charge. It would be useful if they had a passthrough USB port to allow you to avoid this.

I struggled going back to not having it, wireless charging plus Bluetooth in the car means just put the phone in the mount and you're good to go with no messing about. Now nothing has put it on their new midnrsnge phone hopefully others will react and we will find it start to trickle down in to the modntoer devices again.

^^^ You leave it plugged in all the time. Except when you want to transfer files/to from your desktop via USB, which can be avoided if you install an FTP server on your desktop and AndFTP on your phone.

My s21 ultra has to be perfectly aligned with charging pad. Often spend as long as it would take to plug in directly...
