This is really promising, though before you get excited, currently only beta for the US and Android 2.0

This new feature comes with everything you'd expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting.



Great stuff! And now the waiting game for NZ! Groan.

Yup, saw this yesterday - Google is such a behemoth - Garmin and TomToms stocks took a nosedive following Googles announcement...

Garmin losses might haver something to do with them sinking money into their closed platform, crappifone, or whatever they have chosen to call it...

Nope, its not because of that - we're talking an acute, sudden drop off because of Google's announcement. There might be a background of decline in Garmin for the reasons you mention, but this is pretty much directly attributable to Google.
