Received the Sony Ericsson X10 this morning. Beautiful screen, a lot larger than the LG model, but feels like it weighs the same. Running Android 1.6 and from what I was told in a private list Sony Ericsson is not coming with an update until later in the year (think September 2010). Like the LG is uses Moxier to synchronise to Exchange, which is a pain since it does not share contacts with the dialer and messaging application. So only really good if you sync to Google Apps.

GPS is solid, configuration very easy, the on screen keyboard is responsive and keys well apart to avoid typos. Working through it later.

Thanks for bringing it along to the Malthouse during the Epicbeer Thornbridge Stout launch. It felt very nice in the hands even though it was quite large and seemed very responsive. Looking forward to a comprehensive review! This is definitely a phone I'll keep in mind for when I look at buying a smartphone in a few months time.

If you like, I can take it to Sri Lanka and Thailand in June and let you know how it handles tropical conditions

shame about no multi touch ...that really tipped me over to the desire in the end.

how is build quailty? i found the satio to be total plastic junk and so cheep feeling ..this is better? the back certainly looks good and solid ...the front? ,,

I had one of these in my hand recently, very nice feeling.

Probably wouldn't look at this in 2 months time though, too many new handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S out for Android by then.

September might as well be forever away, no doubt Android 2.2 at least will be out by then and handsets arriving around that time will come with it natively, in addition to having better spec sheets than the X10 (will be welcome news for existing users, obviously).

Be interested in your feedback on battery life, sounds like its even worse than the Desire from the feedback I've seen elsewhere (at least partially due to Android 1.6).

I was seriously looking at one of these but the reviews were just not compelling. Lack of multi touch, non AMOLED screen, on-screen keyboard issues etc.

Now looking at the Galaxy S or the Dell Thunder.

I'll likely be getting the Galaxy S on release, so anyone interested can look for a review of that handset from me at that time.

Sorry about OT, but I'm still wondering about a meet for Mobile fanatics in Auckland to get together for a chance to play around with many handsets at one time...

Re moxier. I amusing it on the LG hand set and the first option in the settings menu is to copy contacts to the phone. maybe this has been updated..

correct. I have just checked and it will over write existiing entries if you copy it over twice but it wont delete old entries.

Interesting... Moxier Contacts do get loaded into the phones contacts on this Sony Ericsson X10, but not on the LG.

Seeing I have sent the LG back now, I can't test it again.

I like the LG because of te small form factor and keyboard. I don't like that the navigation keys are too sensitive so if you have the handset in your hands followig a map or reading an email and you brush you finger on the front of the phone it will go back Home.

I like the Sony Erisson speed and screen size. Beautiful for maps and reading emails. But It's a bit too big actually.

The Sony Ericsson came to me with a 8GB microSD and the LG had a 2GB microSD.

If I had to buy one I'd go with the LG though - can't go past keyboard!
