Heya. Im looking to Sell my Iphone 3gs and buy myself an Android OS phone for the very first time. The way I see it is that I have four choices of phones that interest me (In order of preference)

1: Google Nexus One/Samsung Galaxy S
2: Google Nexus One/Samsung Galaxy S
3: Motorola Milestone
4: HTC Desire

The Reason the desire is last is because theres just something about it I dont like. Im not sure what it is because its bascially the same as N1 - just something I cant put my finger on

Each phone has there positive and negatives. Ive watched many reviews on youtube but that really hasnt helped me decide.

For Example. The N1 has LED Camera Flash, 2.2 Froyo has been released for it - Galaxy Doesnt

Galaxy has a bigger screen than N1, comes with swype, has LED Flash - N1 seems to lag when playing some games (Watched videos on youtube)

Anyway I could go on. They all have there positives and negatives, I really dont know which one to get. Price isnt really a factor because they are all pretty much the same.

Im Leaning Towards the Galaxy S - But the no LED Camera flash really gets to me.

All help is greatly appreciated. Ill be watching closely.

I'm a big fan of the HTC Desire, it seems to have everything I need as an Android fan. The Galaxy S has had raving reviews from what I've been reading. The Galaxy Q will be out at some point which will be sporting an LED flash. It will be a 3 inch screen though, but includes QWERTY keyboard.

The N1 and Desire are both fine choices, no doubt about it. I think the Desire is better than the Nexus 1 stock, but with custom ROMs and other tweaks the Nexus 1 edges it. Pretty much a dead heat really.

I own a Desire and Galaxy S, would recommend the Galaxy S of those handsets.

Nexus 1 - I want as vanilla an OS as possible so I don't have to wait for updates.

There is that, but I'd rather go the Galaxy S for the following reasons:

- better screen (much much better - larger, better display characteristics, much better touch accuracy and response and proper multitouch, less battery consumption)

- divx/xvid/mkv etc playback on its sumptuous screen with...

- ...TV Out capability via cable (SD) and streaming (Allshare App, can stream HD)

- much better GPU, increasingly important as HQ gaming takes to Android

- much better sound quality, near perfect even, only the iPhone can match it

- better music player

- better reception

- better battery life

- increased storage capacity

If your priorities are different I can easily see the Nexus as being a perfectly valid choice too.

Has anyone tried LED flashes on camera phone, if your in a situation dark enough to needs a flash, the picture will be crappy regardless of whether you have an LED flash or not.

HTPC / Home automation (home assistant) enthusiast.

I have a Nexus One and I would prefer it over a Desire for three reasons:

1. The back of the Nexus One slides off with a single thumb-stroke. The Desire seems to have about 8 plastci teeth that each need to be prised loose - carefully. I have two batteries....and I don't want to be taping the back onto the phone when the teeth are poked. Nexus One wins here.

2. I wanted the phone that would get the latest updates first and that had, arguably, the best, most sophisticated and professional modding community backing it. It also needed to be easy to root. This gives a user the option of future-proofing their phone if the vendor loses interest. Nexus One wins here on all counts. Designed to be rooted. Gets latest stock code. Has the best modding support of any phone I know.

3. Nexus One is Froyo today. Both in stock and in mods. You want Froyo. Nexus One is also the reference platform for Android 3.0. I want that, too, at the end of the year.

But I wouldn't mind the FM Radio support. Paul O'Brien from Modaco has a Desire ROM that sort of has FM radio going on the N1, but still needs a lot of work.

I have no experience with the Galaxy S.

My Nexus One has a flash. The pics aren't great....but on the other hand I can at least TAKE a pic in the dark with the flash. With some practice, reasonable pics could be obtained....The Android v2.2 camera has an anti-red-eye function...so that helps.

desire and g1 doesnt have gpu

its depend on your budget
galaxy s is the best among the options but high price

milestone
3430 cpu is too slow mid range price...for the same price i would recommend xt720 you get better cpu (oma3440) 8mp camera xenon flash metal, touch sensor buttons, available on expansys.co.uk and clove.co.uk

and the last two option........g1>htc
htcs got very poor quality control many of their phone has got screen and wifi problems e.g. legend and desire

Having read xda it seems the galaxy's gps issues are pretty serious.

There's no way I could consider a device with a core feature that doesn't work. In fact I probably use the gps in my curren phone more than actual calling.

I wonder if it's a problem with the chip rather than software

Well I guess I've narrowed my options down to either a galaxy s or google nexus1. I realize that the galaxy s is a better phone (IMO). But the nexus 1 already has the official froyo. Gps isn't really a big thing for me, but by the same token it would be good if it did work on the galaxy.

I've watched even more videos on YouTube comparing the two together, reviews of both of them. The reviewers seem happy with both of the devices, which makes it even harder for me. I would go straight for the n1 but once galaxy gets froyo I know that will be better.

One draw back on the sgs is the touchwiz software. I completely hate it. I asked on another thread if it was possible to remove it, thankfully it is. Is it possible to get the n1 ui on the galaxy? If so what would that be called? If you can put the n1s look onto the sgs then I think that will sway it for me.

Yep, official Froyo for Galaxy S in August/September, so just go for the Galaxy S (it has many of the best features anyways, or workarounds, like a large internal space for app installation, WiFi tether, rotate into both landscape orientations).

If i were you, I'll get Galaxy S since gps is not a big thing to you. SGS will get froyo update pretty soon
