Same here. I got what I believe is the latest version of Kies this morning, connect my phone to Kies and it says "latest version already installed" = JM1.

Strange, what country is yours set to? I've always been on the UK for settings, but mine seems to have done it

People on XDA are reporting some can do it with the reg fix, some without!

I'm on Win7 64bit 1.5.3.1000093_31

I'll check if my mate did the registry fix, I didn't do it and don't think I have in the past, it just showed up. In saying that, it's terribly slow at downloading still :( and I forgot to sync to AppBrain!

The so-called latest version of Kies that I got this morning is ".....093_82". You have ".....093_31" so not sure what that's all about.

Yeah mine is still an old version, I haven't upgraded it in a while, didn't feel I needed to,

Have been using Odin with the unofficial firmwares eh, really dislike Kies!

This is weird too, quoted from XDA

"It was kies, just tried on a third Win7 pc but this one has kies version 1.5.1.10074_45 installed and its gone through the upgrade without crashing....so far."  - that's even older than my version!!

Yes .... but it doesn't lead to a Froyo firmware upgrade.

Not sure what you mean by this - is there a place on the phone to make a country setting?

Oh whoops, that was in the software itself, i doubt it actually makes a difference, but with my old i5700 I set Kies up in the UK or Germany because back then when the updates came through originally Samsung had set it through the Kies Country, not the phone country, but I think they've probably changed it

Still really unsure why some are getting it and others need the reg hack...just had a confirmation that my mate on a T-mobile Galaxy can't get it...

Am i correct in thinking that you selected UK instead of New Zealand as the country when setting up Kies?

Yeah only due to old habits, I don't think it would make a difference these days since the update is selected off the code in the phone itself, that's what the reg hack does, it tricks it into thinking you have a phone in the supported country list

When I had my original i5700 to get from 1.6 - 2.1 faster, I changed Kies to Germany, who got the update first and it updated.  Wish it was that simple now!

Yeah, you can choose which country you want this software (Kies) to be associated with in one field, and language in the second field. This is on install btw. So I'm not sure if you can change this later.Well, I've looked and I can't find anywhere.

So options are to run a registry hack on the Kies software itself, described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809423

I'm not keen on that yet however. I'm not that desperate to the update. My firmware on my phone has been out of date for a while too it seems. I'm still running JH1 still! When I checked on Kies for upgrades there is nothing. But I know there are newer versions, ones that don't affect your music listening when plugging in the phone.

Overall so far, I am not impressed by Samsung. Eventhough I have not experienced lag or gps issues reported on XDA, the functionality of this phone, such as music player, could have only then be improved by rooting it. That alone could have voided the warranty if done incorrectly. Kies isn't showing later updates for the hardware JH1 either. So what options a careful consumer is left with? None. Mostly because I believe the issue is with this aweful software Kies.

/rant.
