I got a Nexus One from vodafone about 1 month ago and the power button no longer works..... A google search shows that this is a very common problem (more details here). The phone is rooted which voids the warranty however many people say that they have sent rooted phones to HTC and had no problem because this is a hardware problem so they don't even check the software.

Apparently if you plug the phone in to the usb and take out the battery then put it back in fast the phone will start. This does not work for me so I am stuck with a phone that won't turn on.....

I called Vodafone and they will have to send it away so what I was wandering is if this has happened to anyone else here in NZ? And if anyone knows where I could get it repaired?
It would be good to find out if a repair is possible just in case the phone gets rejected from where ever Vodafone sends it.

I don't own this phone but have heard:
- This is caused by a bad design in the ribbon connector that weakens every time the button is pushed and it is bent back and forth. I don't know of any where that would fix it as they would have to hold spares of the part surely?
- There are work-arounds apps to allow you to keep using the phone, involves replacing the power keys uses with other buttons/combinations. Maybe you could look into this?

Yes I have got cyanogenmod installed on it which allows you to use the trackball to wake the phone. The problem is that afaik you can't use another button to power on the phone. You are meant to be able to power it on by plugging the phone in and taking out the battery then putting it back in. This does not work for me so I am stuck with a phone that I can't turn on....

Liam: Repeatedly put battery in / take out while plugged in. Should work after a few tries.

Yes I finally mastered it today however it still is not practical. I think I will try for the warranty and if I don't get that then I will just have to use it in this condition.
