My milestone2 (2.2) has default 3G mobile hotspot app. However, I received error messages when turning it on (2degrees pay monthly):

Turning on, setup data link.

Can not setup data link, please contact your service provider.

I have spent whole night googling for answer but no luck. currently i am browsing the net through my phone via bluetooth (pdanet app). can android gurus on geekzone help me with this. thanks

I'd say it's trying to connect using an  APN that's not what 2degrees use. Is there any configuration where you can select which APN to use?

This is the problem. Not sure where to look for those settings

thanks, but no. all my APNs are perfect. MMS / internet works fine. if u read in my first post, everything works great except for turning on the 3G mobile hotspot. i was wondering if there is 'hidden' APN for the hotspot.

Ok, i have the fix from this cyanogenmod4milestone thread

the 'APN type' has to be empty or other than 'default'! it works perfect now for my milestone2 Laughing

however, this trick did not work for moto defy running 2.1...
