i did, so i DL'd the update and it installed....

What on earth does 2.1 update 1 give me that i didnt have before? and where on earth is 2.2? And why is it almost a year later than all the stuff i found on google?

I purchased through eKing, so was unaware i could even get OTA updates due to the weird firmware hacking that was done in the parallel import process.... let alone incremental ones for 2.1.

Does this mean i might finally get the 2.2 rollout at some stage?

Anyone got an insight?

actually, after googling some more you can find the official wildfire 2.2 software here

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-official-android-2-2-froyo-update-on-htc-wildfire/

a pleasant surprise indeed. will report back with results.

Thanks for the link. I got a Desire and a Wildfire at the same time [Also from Eking] and while the Desire could find an OTA update it would never install so I rooted the handset and am now on a MOD Gingerbread ROM which is excellent.

I will see if my Girlfriend wants her Wildfire updated to 2.2 now.

i'm still a tad hesitant to claim it's the solution (without rooting), but will try this tonight.

the verdict is in: it didn't like it.

Got about half way through the process and threw up an error about incompatability. Guessing eKing's hack is still blocking the process.

Nothing lost though, thankfully. I think i might just bite the bullet and try a custom ROM.

Yeah, it is worth it just for the extra storage space alone. being able to store apps on the SD card.

Have a look at unrevoked. That is what i used. very easy step by step instructions too.

Obviously perform a complete backup using the recommende software on that site.
It is pretty easy as long as you read and do everything as written.

Good luck, i look forward to your update

Ran the OTA on my girlfriend's Wildfire which worked OK but now her wireless is borked.

Ended up rooting it using unrevoked3 and putting on CyanogenMod 6 and everything is working perfectly. She loves her phone all over again.

She had resisted the offers to root the Wildfire on a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" basis but luckily it worked and she is happy.

I am sure there was a list where you could choose releases with and without but I might be confusing it with the official releases on the page you linked earlier in the thread.
What does sense do again, I have never been 100% sure?

One of the UK carriers has just announced that the Wildfire isn't going to get Gingerbread like its successor the Wildfire S. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Perhaps you can go the custom route?

Have a custom rom on now: close enough to the original to be happy, a bit snappier on 2.2 and can still flash a custom 2.3/2.4 rom on in the future.

Might try one of the non-senseUI roms next to actually see what added value it affords.

Cheers for the tips, guys!
