Has anyone else managed to load on another rom and had problems with only picking up 2100mhz cell sites?

I have a 2100mhz cell site about 3km away which i can get 2 bars off - but its the only 2100 mhz tower in hawkes bay.
Down the road there is an 850mhz XT site which I get 5 bars off - but emergency calls only.

Tried loading on the canada radio updates but am not having any luck.
Its just a standard milestone that telecom have been selling.

With the Motorola Defy i had to push some radio files specific to 850/2100mhz to get it working again after flashing a european based rom.
Look around for "850 3G Fixes" Or "USA 3G Fixes" or similar perhaps? I imagine its what those canada radio files were, i had to try two different sets of files before i got one that worked.

Yus I think i got it
Signal went from -90dbm to -60dbm after applying the Brazil update from the op's post at
http://modmymobile.com/forums/564-motorola-milestone-general/554740-request-links-radio-drivers-packs-different-countries.html

Everyone was saying use the canada update but it just wouldnt work so I decided to start using other countries that also have 850mhz.

There is about 3 850mhz towers around me, and one 2100mhz which is 3km away - with microwave nlos i am guessing i am definitley no longer connected to the 2100mhz site.

Oh my I am so happy.

Now to sort out this GPS issue. But I think i'll leave that for another day.

How can you tell if they cell site you're connected to is 850 or 2100? I just installed CM7 on mine and it seems to be working fine.

I have a google maps kml with all the local cell sites. There is only one with 2100mhz, the rest are XT 850
And when i get close to it, signal gets better - as i drive away, signal gets worse to the point where it looses all signal completley when i am on the other side of my house.

I am going to try this CM7 - assuming you just used the droid version.
With the motofrenzy i have been trying, i still cant get the gps to lock or the wifi to be used - only works through the APN even when wifi is connected.

Nevermind - just found you have to use an unofficial port from http://android.doshaska.net/
Im gonna give it a go now. It says the gps is working so hopefully with fingers crossed it will.
Unless i have screwed my phone up so bad already lol.

Okay i got it on and its working
except
when i load on the canadian radio baseband - i only seem to get the 2100mhz tower and gps works
but when i load on the brazilian baseband i get the 850mhz but no gps.

Wish i could get around it.

edit: Got around it - 850mhz + 2100mhz + GPS
Used the Thai baseband from here

So canada gave me GPS + 2100
Brazil gave me 850 + 2100
Thai gave me 850 + 2100 + GPS
