Samsung unveils world’s thinnest mobile Tablets: GALAXY Tab 10.1 and GALAXY Tab 8.9

Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 and GALAXY Tab 8.9 to feature the first customised Android Honeycomb experience for entertainment and business

Auckland, April 26, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the global leader in Android mobile devices has announced two new additions to its family of GALAXY Tabs in New Zealand: the GALAXY Tab 10.1 and GALAXY Tab 8.9, the thinnest mobile Tablets available with a sleek 8.6mm design.

Stefan Lecchi, head of Telecommunications at Samsung Electronics New Zealand says, “The New Zealand Tablet market is growing rapidly and now Kiwis have more choice.”

Based on Samsung’s very own user interface implemented on the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform, the GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 offer excellent multi-tasking capabilities, enhance user interaction and navigation and an impressive viewing experience.

“The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are remarkable examples of Samsung’s constant innovation and show our dedication to designing premium Tablets that fit the unique needs of consumers around the world,” says JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

“By combining Samsung’s innovations in design and display with our exciting new user experience, we’ve created a new class of products that will lead the tablet market.”

Innovative Design
The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are the thinnest mobile tablets available at each screen size. Both feature Samsung’s clear WXGA TFT LCD, as well as an innovative screen design that increases the overall visible screen size while reducing the overall Tab size, thanks to a reduced bezel. With the thinner bezel, both of the GALAXY Tabs deliver the best picture quality in the industry. Combining the Tabs’ ultra-thin form factor with a lightweight design adds to the outstanding portability of these two products.

Customised User Experience “TOUCHWIZ Tablet Edition”
Samsung’s TOUCHWIZ user experience is designed with a live panel menu with which users can customize to display a variety of content on the home screen including movies, digital pictures, favourite web sites and social network feeds. In addition, the Tablet UX includes an application tray of commonly used features such as task manager, calendar and music player which can be launched while other major applications are also in use, including large file downloads and document editing. This Mini Apps tray will allow multi-tasking as if you are using a desktop PC.

The Ultimate Entertainment Hub
The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are pre-loaded with Readers Hub and Music Hub for instant access to vast collections of 2 million books, 2,000 newspaper (49 languages), 2,300 magazines (22 languages), and 13 million songs. The device is also designed with Samsung’s Social Hub to aggregate your contacts, calendar and social network connections into a single interface. The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 feature a Full HD Video Player, 5M pixel front and 2M pixel rare camera to save your wonderful memories with family and friends. Backed by 1GHz Dual Core processor optimized for tablets, GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 provides Full HD video and Flash playback for a rich entertainment experience. They also support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, and even HSPA+.

Ready for Business
The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 will include an industry leading suite of solutions designed to give enterprise customers and IT managers more peace of mind. Developed in collaboration with industry-leading partners such as Cisco, Citrix, SAP and Sybase, Samsung's enterprise mobility solutions will provide flexibility and connectivity for mobile workforces, ensuring that users are able to operate more efficiently on the move.

The Best Entertainment - GALAXY Tab 10.1
GALAXY Tab, with its 10.1’s WXGA TFT LCD display (1280 x 800) powered by 1GHz Dual Core AP, is 8.6mm thick and weighs only 599g. It is the perfect device for sharing and enjoying media content with family and friends. In addition, with its stereo surround-sound speakers and support for Flash 10.2, the GALAXY Tab 10.1 will fully immerse consumers when playing games or watching movies.

The Ultimate Professional - GALAXY Tab 8.9
GALAXY Tab 8.9 is designed for today’s mobile professional to maximize productivity without compromising entertainment, wherever you are. It is 8.6mm thin and weights only 450g. Whether writing emails or reading a book on the couch, the GALAXY Tab 8.9 can be comfortably held in one hand with Samsung’s unique anti-fingerprint and scratch resistant Hyperskin, made from weaved material used in textile.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy 8.9 now join the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab to provide consumers with an impressive array of choices to select the mobile Tablet experience that fit their needs.

Both devices support HSPA+ 21Mbps  850/900/1900/2100 MHz and EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.

On another note, my partner bought one of the 7" ones in the weekend, she can't put it down.

Aren't they going to be under Vodafone? The 7" Galaxy Tab has the Voda logo on startup and shutdown. It wasn't purchased at Vodafone either, but Bond and Bond

And this is the new 10.1 not the 10.1v? Quite surprising, I thought we were getting the 10.1v

And its also interesting they don't mention the tegra 2. Maybe they will have the samsung exynos chip instead.

Seems like with the freqs it's shipping with, it'll run on either. Very interested – I had held off purchasing a wifi-only Xoom and thought these 8.9/10.1 had been vaped..

thinnest tablet? That's pretty imporessive considering how thin the ipad2 is already.

looking forward to seeing pricing. hopefully won't be at the same level as the first tab when it came out.

It's the new ones we want to find out price and availability on. Android Honeycomb and 8.9 or 10.1 inch models.

kind regards Andrew TD

Sweet! Vodafone version. That kinda makes sense since the 7" ones came from 'em. Will totally run mine on XT! Do want.

yeah but when it was first released it was around $1300-$1400 if memory serves me correctly.  way too expensive and if the new one is similarly priced then I can't see it getting many sales.
