I know I shouldn't be looking at this on a brand new phone, but has anyone put custom roms on this phone and what was your experience? What did you put on? How stable was it? Im assuming it voids your warranty immediately, is this correct? Did a custom rom make much of a difference over stock in terms of speed and battery life?

I put FusionIDEOS 1.99 on my son's new phone and it seems fine. The multitouch works well and he's chuffed that it's a little bit more "l33t" than his friends with the same phone.

Good to hear that there is a good experience there. I have just rooted and used nofrills cpu control and autokiller to optimize the default phone for now. I will probably leave it that way for now until I have more time to play around with it.

I've tried a few.

So far fusionideos has been the most polished and stable running at 691 MHz.

It improves the performance and battle life but yes voids warranty.

The gingerbread / cm7 port it coming along nicely though and will be what I use next once the last few bugs are sorted.

Yeah that's the one. Their previous 'Froyoman' rom was also decent.

If you do go with fusion be sure to partition your SD card for the link2sd app.

I've got near 200 apps installed so far thanks to that app. Really handy.

I just upgraded from FusionIDEOS V2 to Cyanogen 7 - otherwise known as Gingerman (it's up to v4 now), which is based on Android 2.3 aka "Gingerbread".

So far, so excellent! battery life seems fine, the phone overall feels faster, and Gingerbread has some nice little touches and tweaks compared to Froyo. More importantly me for me, I was able to install Android 2.3-only apps, so it was a necessary upgrade for me. And these superlatives are in comparison to the excellent Fusion, let alone the stock ROM!

Just put on leandroid. It is nice, smooth and fast. Had fusion Ideos but it seemed to drain the battery really fast and then dronix but the gallery didnt work for some reason.
It is actually super easy to swap roms on this phone if you have an hour to spare.

Sure does. makes looking at photos and web browsing so easy. Had the synaptics touch screen so it has worked on every multitouch enabled rom.

Downloading it as I type. The ROM Manager App really is nice, in that you can automatically download the latest IDT ROMS very easily.

Rom Manager makes things really easy. Just had one odd issue where it did not install boot loader first time properly. Installed it again from app and it worked perfectly. Love the backup option.

Im not sure I will use the gingerbread update until it is a bit more stable, almost every build seems to have had niggling issues and im just not keen to try it yet. probably just going to stick with what is on the phone now for the time being. Happy with 2.2.1 for now.
